It's one of myfavorite forms. You can definitely see the influence Fafi has had on my style. Although she has all kinds of deals now (like the one she had with nike) , she started as a street artist
It's hard to bring up graffiti without mentioning Banksy. Based in the UK, he uses stencils a lot. His works are very witty, and sometimes can be quite political. http://www.banksy.co.uk
(These images are quite big, I hope it's ok to post them? If not, just tell me and I'll take them off / link to them instead.)
One of my favorite collaboration projects- Chromopolis organized by the Carpe Diem and Greece to show Graffitti as an artform. They painted 10 cities up.
I'll put up the link to te pictures instead since they are big and plenty. I wish some of them had better pics...I'm trying to locate some detailed shots.
Pictures taken last year... I think. We got new building on a space in the centrum of Delft (The Netherlands). This was made by young artist
Taken by me, with a nokia 6600...
Bansky is definitely my favourite grafitti artist.
In my art class a couple of weeks ago we make stencils about diffrent political & social statements. I created a stencil of headphones and a syringe. My message? "Music is a drug".
edit I attempted to attach the image but the file was too large. Sorry guys...
I've never really been all that interested in graffiti/street art, but lately I have seen a rise in some very interesting ones where I am. Thanks for posting the images though!
Also, I'm starting to like Bansky, especially his use of stencils. I've been seeing quite a few of those (stencils) nowadays.
what do you all think about the idea that graffiti artists' work (esp. banksy) should be conserved somehow? Personally I think it should be left to the elements, graffiti art is meant to be temporary and part of the changing urban environment. The idea of conserving seems too profit-orientated and a massive contradiction to what graffiti actually is.
