art is cool ... discuss..

^ i used to get that kind of comment too.. i used a lot of black back then, but they weren't "sad" pictures  but hey don't they say, sad music doesn't appear so sad when you listen to it when you are sad? :bunny:

quote by Elizabeth Olver

"Understanding what we like and dislike about our visual, tactile, sensual, and functional world is essential to the design process, and is an exciting learning experience. It provides a designer with a personal perspective necessary to give character to a design. Personality is what distinguishes design and saves it from being just another eternal, anonymous, repeat; it makes a design noteworthy, exciting, provocative, distinctive, and individual."

... i usually listen to sad music only when i truly AM sad.. it's only then that i don't really think about the meaning behind songs instead choosing only focus on how slow and depressing it sounds which only leads me to feel more sadness, which really doesn't do any good at all

does anyone know of any art industry issues that have arisen in the past or present? i need to do research for school on some issues and can only think of local ones.. re: bill henson and the whole 'child nudity -is it art or child p*rn' scandal, i don't really wish to research this

^ is art theft an art industry issue?

over here there is a big university with its own museum of anthropology that's bought items from many places, for example mexico and lower.. carpets, antique garments, etc. they were revealed to be sold illegally --and now the country(ies) want them back as it's part of their heritage.. I don't know but perhaps that counts as art

I did an assignment on the artist versus the critic last year which explores whether either should define what art is. I am not sure if you would count this as an issue but there have been famous clashes between artists, critics and viewers as to who can define what art is.

I don't think I could post my assignment for you but look up:
  • John Ruskin versus James Whistler
  • Philip Hensher versus Tracey Emin
  • Fisun Guner versus Sebastian Horsley
The above are just a few examples, as I then focused on the criticism of minimalism and works by Carl Andre and Sol Lewitt. I hope this helps:flower:
