Gucci 'Jackie 1961' Handbags S/S 2023 : Dakota Johnson by Glen Luchford

What's the point of hiding the bag in the first shot?

Looks like a British Vogue under Schulman ed.
Terrible styling, terrible attitude, very Lauren by Ralph Lauren.

Gucci, if you try really hard, you'll remember how good you once were at glamour.

I feel like she would make a better YSL or Marc Jacobs girl than Gucci.

Shockingly mediocre, but you know what they say, "the bigger you are, the harder you fall". It's going to be a rough transition after Allesandro. Hopefully the new designer will adapt quickly.

As one of the very few on here who actually liked Alessandro's direction at Gucci for what it was, Glen Luchford was really one of the key people that helped make the brand so successful by translating that vision. tFS consistently hated Gucci's collections but loved the campaigns which I always thought a bit odd if not vaguely hypocritical. The fantastic vintage sci-fi movie campaign? That's literally Glen.
I'm guessing the suits started getting involved at some stage and called for more basic and accessible campaigns, especially for items they're hoping to sell lots of. And that's why we're here. A handbag campaign looking like a British Vogue editorial under Alexandra Shulman. I can already hear her describing Dakota in these pics 'the type of girl you'd want to have brunch with in Chelsea...'

For a while that combined vision seemed fresh and new, but there are only so many times you can do 'glam rock Jarvis Cocker takes a trip to the zoo' and its other permutations, before that becomes tired and stale, and is limping along, season after season.

This campaign is a big nothing, but if it represents a pause between directions, I welcome the clean sweep.

One of the last campaigns under Michele. This screams "I was fired"

In my opinion he was asked to leave because he *didn't* produce stuff like this. As with Viard at Chanel and MGC at Dior, there's a disconnect between what many users here appreciate as exemplary fashion and what the general consumer of the respective brands' RTW want to purchase. Will we be seeing a more normcore Gucci? Almost certainly.

She looks pretty though, that Birkin look suits her so well, but too basic, nothing sparkles.
