Hair Styles for Black Girls

i just bought a bonnet dryer and am going to experiment with bantu knot sets and rollersets, plus i hate wet hair in the winter, no matter what if i dont blowdry im still drippy or damp all day, i dont conditioner wash daily anymore just shampoo and deep condition 2x a week, so wet sets should suit my routine perfectly, i'll post results soon

hey guys, my friend has kinky type hair and she recently put a texturizer in it...it looked great and I am kinda considering it...has anyone else tried one and had good results (aka not going bald)?!

i had one that i grew out about two years ago, it was kinda nice at first but no matter how much i conditioned it was never as soft or lively as my natural hair, i like it big when i wear it out and i never got the look i wanted, maybe if i had gone to a texturizer expert i would have had better results, but in the end i wasnt happy with it cause i really just wanted the look of my twist/braidouts with just washing and going and that isnt what i got, plus as it grows out and you get touch ups it gets straighter and ramen noodle looking, plus its hard to time it so the textures blend, it could make some problems worse like the front of my hair has loose kinky waves that never act right and the texturizer just made it stand out worse, i wish it would have worked for me, i was mad that i had so much hair and ended up transitioning again, two years later its back to its original glory and i just take the time to work with it more and learn new styles and techniques, if you want more info go to missjessies.com formerly known as curve they have tons of before and afters of their silkener/texturizer and are experts, i dont really like the look of it on most heads and the thing is you are never completely sure of the outcome, also a.dickey at louis licari and curlisto salon are both experienced with this as well as natural hair, does your friend have pictures???

I often run out of style ideas, my hair's natural and I usally wear it one daily which of course means I have to spend time slicking it down. Two strand twists are great and last me two weeks, I used to wear my hair pressed but it took it's toll on my ends! Great topic by the way.

does ne one hjave ne picture sof funky hairstyles that they do? or just of their natural hair? if they do that'd be great.. thanks

I tried side bangs to model my hair off Cassie's the other day... it's somewhat like it, but because of the length, it's still a bit off. ^_^

I wanna try an asymetric bob, and in the summer I wanna wear it loose and curly. My main focus though is to grow it out healthily by at least 3inches by July.

I've been natural for about 2 1/2 years now. I got my first perm at around 12 and liked it, until I got second one and got chemical burns on my neck. I then got it pressed every two weeks, but that got too expensive so I decided to go natural. I recently cut my hair myself, getting rid of all of my permed hair. I now straighten it every two weeks, with a week long no heat rule, every month.
You could probably look in magazines or websites for ideas. It just depends on whether you keep your hair natural or permed, and the type of lifestyle you live. I run almost everyday so I usually keep styles simple: Half up, ponytail, or all down for special occasions.

Hi! Can anyone give me any tips about growing out my hair? I perm my hair and it is a little bit past my shoulders, but I would like to have a little more length without extensions. Thanks!

vitamins are a good idea...i take cod liver oil pills...also don't stretch or pull your hair too tightly as this pulls it out, get your perms and treatments regularly and GET YOUR ENDS TRIMMED REGULARLY.

^^^ That is excellent advice (especially the part about trimming your ends). My hair is thick, healthy, and long ... past bra-strap ... aiming for crook of elbow. I take prenatal vitamins every day and sleep with a satin scarf and pillowcase.

Also, don't use a shampoo that strips your hair ... most shampoos that non-blacks use are too harsh for us. I've had great results with Creme of Nature. I also do a protein treatment about once a month.

Good luck! :D

design essentials is also good, i use the shampoo and conditioner in one because it's really moisturizing, everything else leaves it really dry, i also sleep in a satin scarf, but it's important how tight it is as it can thin your hair

seriously, I think the best look for a black woman is to let your hair go naturally curly. I mean, have it cut into a style and not like a 70's afro or anything, but you know, just nice big curls. Pretty:flower:

^Well at least let your own curls shine through. Black women have vastly different textures. Not everyone has those big, fat, wild curls. My hair is natural and has a looser curl and about four different textures all over my head, but I have friends and family members who have a really tight curl, and they are fustrated by the lack of options. For the record I love the 70's fro, now that rocks!:)

Some of my fave looks...
