A good JET BLACK hair dye?

I use a brand called Bigen. It's permanent--no peroxide or ammonia. It's like a henna.

i almost bought some yesterday. feria has a new black, less blue black, more red black....called 'black leather' i remember when i had my hair black, it looked kinda weird with my skin tone. i think maybe because it was a cool black, that feria listed above...im tempted to try the 'black leather' color, as the model on the box had more olive skintones, and was less fair skinned than the model on the other box...

if anyone here dyes their hair black frequently, do you think skin tone goes into play? i mean, some people pull off the black hair better than others, and it seems the majority of them have really fair skin...

okay...i did it...i dyd my hair...and i freakin' love it! now, i've used that feria midnight color previously, and it didn't really do much with my skin tone, so i was a bit hesitant...feria just came out with a new black, more natural and it has a kick *** name: "black leather".....it's like the best black hairdye EVER!

i got a bit on my skin and whatnot too, and it doesn't stain the skin, which is a good thing....beautiful shiny straight black black....

thanks alejandro for the tips....you're gorgeous pics made me break my non-dyeing binge

im gonna dye my hair L'Oreal Preference Soft Black tomorrow! im excited because i have like four colors in my hair right now and its bugging me. dark roots, medium brown hair with goldie highlights comin through and lighter brown close to the roots. can wait to have one shade of hair again. the last time i used the same color its pretty dark but more natural and not so inky. and hardly faded after a month. hope to dye my hair this last time then grow it out to my natural dark brown/black(depends on who you ask) hair color!

be careful about dying black over highlights or blonde areas....they may turn green...

^ o yes i was worried about that the last time i dyed my hair black but the hair dye was so stubborn that it hardly ever faded even when i tried to wash it a lot to lighten it. the thing i like about black is that unlike brown, it doesnt fade within a week.

i just dyed my hair the 'lightest' black i could find this afternoon. i like it, its neutral/cool black with no blue or red. i think in a month or two.. it might fade only a tiny bit but it will look more natural for me since my natural hair color is a super dark brown, borderline black but you can see the brown shine in the sun and i used to have lighter brown streaks near on the sides(naturally), like where you tuck in you hair behind you ears. im not dying it again, just gonna let it grow out completely.

I use a brand called Naturtint made by Phergal Laboratories, Madrid. I buy it from Whole Foods and other health food stores. Its a gel formula that you mix with a developer and it doesnt contain ammonia.

For black, I use the blackest of the black they have: Ebony Black 1N and at first it was a little too black, but after the second day, it was perfect. I just have to leave it on for less time next time I use it. Its a pretty pure black (no blue) and it left my hair VERY shiny.

My natural hair color is dark brown with very brassy red/brown sun highlights.

good to know it came out nice.

i really like having black hair.....i feel so much more dramatic and sexy:P

When I did color my hair black, like you, it looked off and didn't complement my skin at all. So sadly I've always conceded to the idea that only pale skins could pull it off. I'm still slightly tan at the moment and I do want to have black hair again, but I couldn't ever find a shade that meshed with my skin without looking like a bad holloween wig. I've probably used only cool based black in retrospect.

jun3machina I'm rethinking about dying it again after your success. Do you have a picture of your hair? Is the leather black dye reddish at all in the sunlight?

it's slightly redish tone in the sun, but my real hair color was like a really dark chestnut, wih a tiny bit of dark red tones in it, so i think that's partially it. I remember when i did the blue-black though it really didn't work with my skintone because i have kinda tan/olive skin, im not a fair skinned person. i'll see if i can find a good before and after pic.

Personally, I think that jet black hair with a tan can look good. As long as the tan is not too overly fake (aka orange), it looks good. Matter of fact, when Christina Aguilera had black hair, she didn't look too bad.

It wasn't until she got dread-like hair and turned orange that it looked like a bad idea.

yah, i dont have a fake tan, im just naturally darker. im half native american, and live in southern california, so it's a bit inevitable, even though most of the time im indoors drawing

okay, my apologies it took so long for these pics...

I'm really tempted to dye my hair black (it's dark brown naturally) but for some reason my face is always really red and I'm afraid it will clash.

I always think about either going chocolate brown or jet black with my hair, lol. But I'm rather happy with my natural haircolor (for now). South Chinese genes gave me brown black hair, pretty natural highlights so that under light, it shimmers brown but in the shade it's black.

I first noticed it when my Kindergarten teacher told me I got a really pretty haircolor while I was playing in the garden of the kindergarten.

I just colored my hair midnight black its like blue black...i love brown hair but the black makes my make up stand out more...it does look nice if Im more tan but it doesnt look so bad when my skin is lighter.
