I second the LV epi leather screams understated class rather than the over replicated monogram. I have sooo much monogram and it is very offputting to take it out with all the fakes about. I have one epi leather piece and one damier and if i ever buy LV again it will not be monogram

yes that's my baby! it's £495 which is about €710. I got a good deal on mine though..

If you are looking for something that will go the distance as far as being classic, EPI's are really nice. The LV monogram is really past saturation now and nobody will think it's real anyway - unless you buy one that the fake factories have not perfected yet like the white or black mono.
Chanel is good too. They have a way of making bags that are current but timeless. Of course Hermes is a top choice if you can afford one! Mulberry is a great alternative.
I know a lot of people here don't like the Luella Giselle, but I have one that I ADORE and will use forever. It's timeless style. Some of the Luella Giselles are really unique as well. I got lucky and found a kelly Green leather and beige quilted canvas on sale at Bergdorf's and It's the best bag ever!

I have a few designer bags but just bought one with MY OWN money for the first time the other day. I got myself the Mulberry Bayswater in oak, and it's my baby! Mulberry is my obsession at the moment...

I also vote for LV's epi series. They are within your budget and a lot more low key yet classy than monogram bags. They are very durable as well. Highly recommend as the first designer bag.

ok... so i've mentioned before im treating myself to a bag for my birthday. i think im setteled on getting a chanel of some sort...i LOVE big bags... can anyone suggest any particular ones, and also their prices? i dont want to spend more then $1500 if i dont have to... but ill see what comes up!! thanks!!

the new white Chanel bag

I really like the white Chanel bag that Charlotte Casiraghi had recently at her uncle Prince Albert's coronation. But I can't find it anywhere! Not even on the Chanel site! I wonder if it was a special design just for her, as I know Lagerfeld does special designs for the Grimaldi family all the time, especially his pal Princess Caroline. Or maybe you have to buy it only in certain Chanel boutiques, like in Paris? If anyone has any questions about which bag I am talking about, I saw it here:

It did say "being scratch resistant" so it would be caviar leather instead of lambskin coz lambskin is not scratch resistant. This bag is not in the current season coz the siver chain ring look like from the couple season agos but I could be wrong.

I think there are some good choices from Ferragamo ( I kept thinking of how you described your mom.."classic with a modern twist), Kate Spade. The epi series in has some great designs as well. You can surf eluxury.com to view what's available.

Hope there's enough recommendations here to give you a better idea of what to buy.
