The Gucci bag looks PERFECT. I wonder how wide/deep? It is It looks quite large and a great shape for books, and it's simple and casual enough for school, I wear anything from jeans a button down to school spirit sweats. I'm not very stylish in school. Unfortunaltey it's a bit more than I would like to spend on a bag for school ($800), maybe they have a canvsa version? I'll check that out. You still helped though, I had no idea what to look for before, now I have more of an idea of what I want

Guessgirl, I recently purchased a great bag by an indie designer (Anna Corinna of Foley & Corinna). It is the city tote, and can be converted from a very large tote (20" X 20") to a shoulder bag by folding it over in the middle. Very practical for school, and made with beautifully distressed leather. It's available on shopbop.com for around $350.

Thank you Green and catwalk The Large gucci tote is definaltey on my list of petentiol bags. I'll have to measure the dimentions of my books to see if they'd fit in the Anna Corina bag which it's holded over (I preffer shoulder bag for school), it would be great if they did, it's a nice casual bag for a good price.

My mom wants a designer bag but she hasn't found one that she really likes yet. She only wants one and she wants something that is timeless and classic. She hates trendy things. She hates most of my Chanel suggestions, though! What can I recommend to her? I think maybe a Coach bag would appeal to her style. Is there something else I should look into?

can anyone tell me if the ALMA bag comes in a larger size, as a carry on type luggage? I thought I saw it somewhere but cannot locate it again. I don't care for the elongated Alma, but thought the regular one came "supersized" so you could use it as an overnight bag. thanks.

I was on eluxury and was thisclose to pressing the "Check Out" button, but the "no international shipping" caught me. *sigh of relief*

I don't know what's possessing me to do this - I would've never even IMAGINED in my wildest dreams that I'd be throwing $690 USD of my hard-earned money towards a freagin' bag ( I'm a full-time university student working less than 10 hours a week ). By the way, I'm Canadian so $690 USD = $821.128 CAN with the current exchange rate. I don't even want to think about the additional shipping costs that'll incur to get the bag safely to me.
The thing is though, I'm trying to rationalize this purchase in my head by telling myself that I deserve it. I recently obtained an Associate position in one of the Big 4 accounting firms, and I haven't really done much celebrating yet...so this would be an ideal present to myself. Another option I thought of was to make the purchase of this bag conditional upon my final exam marks. I figured that if I aced all my classes with flying colors, I'd get it. If not, I'd "punish" myself by not getting it.
My God, I'm so complicated and I think too much lol.

Can someone please kill my lemming...or not? :?

Is this bag considered to be big/spacious? I need something that I can stash my life in, and so far this is the biggest Dior bag I've come across...any recs would be appreciated!

handbags with long straps

I like wearing my purses across my body, but most handbags have short straps meant for carrying or wearing higher up. Does anyone have recommendations for handbags with longer straps? The Anna Corinna tote recommended by Greendrv might work, but it still seems kinda short. I might get it anyway but I wanted to see what other options there might be.

crankypants, the strap on the city tote is a little too short for the bag to be worn comfortably messanger style. If you arne't looking for a leather bag, may I recommend Freitag bags? They are messanger bags made of recycled canvas tarps from the side of trucks in Germany and customizable. While I do not own one, I have been thinking about purchasing one for my fiance.

Luna, good recommendation. I forgot about the Faithfull bag. Actually, I jsut re-read your post cranypants, and realized that you're looking for handbags with long straps. While I can't think of any off the top of my head, may I recommend shopbop.com and activeendeavors.com? Both sites show the bags being worn by models so you get a really good sense of proportion and how long the straps actually are.

Thanks, Green and Luna. I looked up all your recommendations. I think the Faithfull bag is a little too glitzy for me, and the Freitz a little too messenger bag (I like those, but I already have one). The activeendeavors site was pretty cool for seeing the bags "in action," though.

I'll keep looking, but I appreciate your suggestions! And any more that might come along...
