Harper’s Bazaar Australia June/July 2019 : Elsa Pataky by Pierre Toussaint

I like it! I'm drawn to the mood of the cover. The colors are lovely. She looks gorgeous.

HOWEVER, I am confused why they decided to put that thick font for "VIRTUAL VALETS" beside her face. At first glance, the thick font is taking away some of the attention on her face.

Very Real Housewives in the way they've dealt with glamour here. The necklace is too much, and maybe the dress too with that backdrop and art direction.

It seems Australian Bazaar turned into Town & Country overnight? Or they are trying to position themselves as such? Either way I find the cover lines crude and gaudy. Mummy, Are We Rich? is probably a reprint from US Town & Country.

Why is that title “Mom are we rich?” used a lot? Gosh I’m gonna give it a pass. Horrible cover anyway.

Not to diminish Elsa Pataky's career in any way, but let's be clear, she's known in Australia mostly as Chris Hemsworth's wife. In some ways she's of questionable relevance to be on the cover of Bazaar, but then again if they can give Lara Worthington multiple covers, why not give one to Elsa, who at least has an acting career. Overall though, here's an example of a feature that didn't really need to be ran as a cover, and could have been just a lovely feature inside with an actual model on the cover instead.

Side note, has anyone else ever noticed that her face is strikingly similar to Elsa Hosk at certain angles?

I was about to ask in my post what Elsa was famous for other than being married to Chris, but then I remembered Lara's countless covers. I must admit I really didn't mind her presence all that much because the styling team made an effort to present her in a unique way. Every one of her covers looked markedly different and presented a fresh side to her. Which again furthers my point that creative control, which I'm sure Lara never got, should remain in the hands of the magazine and not the subject.

This photo needs more light on her face and the masthead needs other colors different from her outfit

To be fair, Lara made her self a notable personality and model in Australia, in the same way that the Karadashians did in America. Previously models had a short shelf life and had no influence over their career longevity or choices. While many fashion snobs like us might write them off, by contrast, fashion industry leaders see them as relevant, setting the cultural trends and therefore profitable. Lara represents A-list in Australia, and also she epitomises the mainstream Australian beauty ideal. Plus she knew when to get out of Australia and tone down the instragram image.
