Heels for Men

samtheman

That is a great photo.

Hopefully see more in the future.

Its summer and its hot here. High heel boots just aren't as comfortable as high heel summer sandals. So, can a man wear heels wihout shaving his legs, or must we shave for the summer?

Are we 'men in heels,' (don't need to shave) or 'men emulating women in heels?' (O god, do anything to me, but pleeease, at least just shave.)

Personally as a man who loves wearing heels almost more than anything else imaginable, I still don't like most men in heels, even as much as I've tried to explore that genre.

Interestingly several people here in the north woods have commented that I have "girl legs" even though I'm only wearing cut off jeans and flip-flops. (Well, and a t-shirt.) So should girl legs be shod in girl shoes?!!!
(Someone will probably say "just put your long pants back on!")

(So far noone has mentioned that I might have a girl torso!)

As always, thanks for the stimulating notions.

Boy Meets Girl
And what of it? Today's attitude is fashionably indifferent

Guy Trebay said:
Does anyone remember the idea of dressing suggestively, that anachronistic phrase from a time when what was suggested was supposed to be clear to any and all? Women dressed suggestively, it almost went without saying, for a man’s gaze. Men dressed, well, they dressed like men. When a figure like Marlene Dietrich made the occasional excursion into masculine attire, it was assumed that she did so as an impersonator or as a tourist, and with the clear understanding that her femininity would be restored at the end of the show. Dietrich’s sexual tastes, as it turned out, may have been a lot more plural than the studios encouraged movie fans to believe. And it seems pretty clear now, more than half a century later, that the star so at home in a Jean Louis dress and feather boa, or a top hat and dandy’s tails, was sending a message about the shape of things to come.

Since Dietrich’s time, dualities like butch/femme have come to seem kind of clunky. The performance that is drag seems as passé as a Flash Gordon comic. Changes in how we view the mostly false oppositions both between and within the sexes have come so fast that even language hasn’t caught up. A lot would have once been suggested, in other words, by the image of a woman wearing fishnet stockings, a fancy frock and a pair of wingtip brogues. One would have assumed she had something intimate and possibly crucial to tell you about herself. Her attire had a message to transmit then, and probably still does. The message before might have had something loaded to convey about gender. The message now would be about yawning boredom with fixed roles and the indifference a new generation feels toward outdated boundaries.

This is what I wore to work on Friday...

These are the boots with jeans (the jeans I lifted up so you can see the heel for the photo - but they genuinely sit very well)...

And these are the boots in their entirety...here.

I've worn this outfit a few times to work now with no problems. I like it. :)

Yasmin - don't be afraid to give your opinion, it is as much valid as mine, ajott's or anybody elses. You don't have to like men in stillettos, everybody has their preferences in fashion. Thank you for being open minded and accepting. It makes a refreshing change from all the "ewwws" etc.

IMO, men in heels does work - you just need the right shoe, the right person, the right outfit and the right state of mind to pull it off.

This looks perfect! the perfect balance between a guy and heels! :flower:

The only one guy i have seen on this thread who doesn't look like a (i'm sorry for the word) freak.

Acknowledging that it's unusual, I nonetheless think it's a very cool look, Kneehighs. You obviously step it out with confidence and style with those heels plainy visible.

I prefer high heels, but never "thin" heels or stilettos, just boots like Dior Homme. I love boots with a 50mm-heels like these: (luisaviaroma.com)

I think any guy can wear heels as long as it is a block heel and no higher than 2.5-3 inches. never stilettos!!!!

In terms of achieving maximum social acceptance, a block heel is definitely more acceptable.

In terms of achieving maximum personal happiness, I find my desires best fulfilled (in anything in life, not just fashion) by making my own decisions independent of the opinions of others.

^I agree kneehighs. As long you're not hurting anyone what's the harm?

umm, that is a little scary, and if a gay guy thinks so, well, it is.

So gay guys can't be close minded and prejudiced?

I absolutly agree!
I'd love to have a pair of hot Dior Homme boots...
6,5 cm heel. Surprisingly comfortable, totally rock&roll, but I don't think i'd wear them if I wasnt goin to The Rakes concertB)
For that ocasion, I'd love the golden ones.

About stilleto-men... I wouldnt wear it, but of course I understand other men that would.

dude, you rock those stilettos.

(just don't wear them anywhere between new york and miami beach, for your own personal safety... people can be very unaccepting)

I just returned from a trip to the states wearing a pair of 3-1/2" tapere heels. Medium brown suede beneath jeans, a black t-shirt, and charcoal grey overshirt.

Three airports, two security checkpoints, one sports bar, five restuarants, one hotel (six nights), six conversations with women (mainly business, fashion, and makeup professionals and a realtor) ranging from 31 to 55, three malls...

Literally hundreds, if not thousands of reactions ranged from indifference to acceptance.

Two invites for dates, one from the cosmetics mogul, and the other from a 31-year-old beauty with a delicious laugh, wonderful sense of humor, and a desire to date men who don't act like teenagers.

So while on the subject of Men and heels.

Would you wear heels with normal socks or would you opt for tights?

guys shoes with heels - yes
guys wearing womens shoes with heels - no
just my opinion

So then Rick Owens is ok, certainly looks Ok to me.

I just wish these sort of boots were out there on the racks.

i really dont like rick owens sporting those boots. way too feminine for my taste:unsure:
