Heels for Men

"its nothing to do with being stylish anymore."

Who defines "stylish"?

dego,

you do define for yourself. and thats why you wear and love high heels
its like saying what is normal.. however style is more specific.
just curious whether you have a style icon. or someone you like in specific for their style?

But most of you guys, are you really interested in FASHION or just in heels on yourself? Cause must of you are clearly only posting in this and similar threads. I have no problems w/ women's shoes, wear it myself, but would never wear a heel, as i don't feel it look good on me. I feel that most of this are more, almost an fetish for heels, and it kinda scares me.. (but then again fetishes, S&M etc always have scared the living sh** out of me)

I just hope i have offensed anyone, and if so, i'm really sorry =)

Interesting, because as I've noticed from the way you dress (you cross gender boundaries and for that I applaud you ), you'd be the perfect candidate for wearing heels and I think, with the right pair (not fetish heels), you'd look good in them too.

I wear heels occasionally (I've posted pictures of myself wearing them in the What are you wearing thread) and I wouldn't call any of the styles I wear fetishy at all. Quite the opposite in fact. I always consider the style and fashion aspects before I wear anything.

Thank you very much! But yeah, i do dress androgonyously, but then again i feel that items that get too "******" (excuse the expression; skirts, dresses, heels, spagettistraps etc) is too much. But yeah, i guess it would be cool to try some vintage patent leather heels sometime, but to date, it's not just who i am, and i can never imagine myself actually wearing heels in future, but you never know, huh? =)

That's true, from what i can recall you choose very plain and good heels, not 20 cm patent thigh-highs

I'm curious that you say 'women's shoes', BeautifulStranger. I have to wear men's Levi's because they fit. Do you find there isn't enough 'androngyny' and variety for men in footwear so you buy women's shoes?

There are so many shoes and boots made for men with high heels, and they have nothing to do with vamp, ******, xdress or women. My point is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing what makes you feel comfortable, happy, free and expressive! If you're male and you like heels, wear them.

Having wandered around the globe myself in some, well shall we say, 'different' kinds of adornment, I can only warn you about people who stick out their big feet and try to trip you. Growl. Fashion is about fashioning yourself; what a great canvas to play with! Why not wear heels, whatever kind of heels that may strike one's fancy? In fact, whatever shoes you wish. The feet are yours!

both yes and no. That is some of the reason, yes, but as my shoesz is a EU 39 / uk 5, it's usually the only-option.

I do not disagree with this, but this is also a discussion on "how you feel about heels on men", and therefor i should have a right to express myself. I have nothing against heels on men, i just wouldn't wear it myself.

Now, this, i agree with you on 100%.

^ Oh yes yes yes yesssssss! Expression, opinion, sharing, discussion. All are crucial to our dialog. I apologize if I seemed critical - far from it. I respect your opinion entirely. :flower:

I was merely wondering if there is a gap in the marketplace to accommodate a man's desire to wear footwear that is beyond the boundaries of traditional men's wear. Because commerce usually fills in any void in goods, it is particularly thought provoking for me - sexism built into commerce that restricts choice and curtails freedom of expression. At the same time, the market aims a 'man wearing heels' toward eccentric and sexually controversial goods.

I just find this issue to be very interesting.

kneehighs,

with all due respect your reply made me giggle a little..
not liking a guy in heels is not comparable to wanting a woman who cooks, cleans, walks your dog, etc...
did i say i want him to bring home the bacon? nope

i like MENS SHOES, i find them sexy on a man. as a woman, i simply find it a turn off when a man wears ladies shoes, thats all.
i did in no way imply its wrong. but in this thread, there surely are some examples which from a fashion point of view AND MY (i clearly state MY) point of view are a huge NO NO. its nothing to do with being stylish anymore.
and nowhere did i say i like men with big feet. i would even moreso like "no" heels on men who have a 40 shoe size

to each their own but pls dont put words in my mouth :flower:

So leyla, I guess you are one of that one of a kind women that always wear dresses and skirts and bobby socks and.......... (well you get the picture) but never pants (heaven forbid it's too masculine!!!) nor anything resembling male attire not even sneakers............???

You find it interesting, so many men find it missing......

I have no problems with heels on men as said previously, it can indeed look great, but trousers / jeans on a girl and heels on men is too different things...

Surely it the same kind of thing only it's over a different timescale.

i still don't think so, as trousers always has been more of a unisex-item. Yes, it wasn't "accepted" many years ago, but then again it looks much more unisex and always have, IMO. (but then again, in 15 years, maybe i'll write the exact same thing about how heels look unisex.. everything starts somewhere  )

What makes it different? If men can't wear skirts and heels women can't wear jeans, pants and sneakers.

Wear do you draw the line if women closed the gender divide by encorporating mens wear into fashion as their own?

i agree with you on pants, however, sneakers and jeans i disagree with, as it's not a "oldfashioned" male type of clothing like trousers etc. Sneakers especially is a "new" item which has been considered, as far as i know, unisex since it got "invented". Jeans has been around forever, but again, as far as i know, been a more "worker(wo)man"-kind of garment, and not a item just for male's.

And then again, there's no need to discuss this with me, as i'm totally for everybody to wear whatever they want. Just don't critize me for not wanting to wear dresses, skirts and heels. I think it's really hard for a man-ish looking man to pull off a skirt, dress or a pump, but that's only my opinion.

IMO Fashion is part of culture. And so it goes in every place and every etnia where we go and the things they wear may seem odd to our eyes.

In many cultures men use skirts. Heels have been used by men for centuries in Europe and Western culture -maybe they were not as cute as the Clichy, but we needed Louboutin to create it for us to admire or wear it-

I feel there is nothing wrong using whatever you like or you feel proper for you, as long as you stand for it, with pride & dignity... The rest is "painted cardboard" as we say in my place.

We can carry on this argument/conversation for days mangling ideas, viewpoints and the likes. Point is that men wore heels in the 1700's as sign of their aristrocacy. Men wore petty coats as little as 100 years ago, men wore wigs and makeup in the 1700's. Men also wore hose which all of the above is suddenly a "taboo" in sociey's eyes. So what is actually unisex? Pants/jeans were created by men for horse riding not workwear or fashion for women. As I said it can be debated for days on end..........

tjlakes,

not at all.. but i find it amusing that most men on here compare high heels for men to jeans or pants on women....
its also interesting that men in this thread get so defensive (i almost feel im in the victoria beckham thread  ) with their heels.

clothes are a different story as it goes way back in history and traditions.
to make it clear, i have nothing against men in dishdashas or kilts as they are traditional and look right if thats where you come from.
however, if i recall high heels (i precise HIGH) are not something thats gone down in fashion history as worn by men. you had all sorts of heels but not 5inch and higher  stripper heels!!!
i am simply disturbed by men who wear heels that i hardly see on ANY woman unless she works in a specific industry.
i mean, come on, lets be honest here. 5 inch heels is not something that is so common with women either.... let alone men..
i
some of you guys seem so confident and i applaude you for that.
however with all this confidence, i would love to see pictures of you and dego and others with these super high heels. its nice to put a face to those who defend "the high heels for men cause"

again, i dont have anything against it. what i do mind, is someone arguing that it is the same thing as me wearing pants and that heels look great "if only you give it a go":hardhead:
