Helena and Leif Get Down to Business

(LONDON) Helena Christensen has become the latest fashion plate to invest in the power of the World Wide Web. Christensen and Sigersen, the quirky fashion label created by the Danish supermodel and her business partner and friend of 15 years, Leif Sigersen, has been picked up exclusively in the U.K. by the the highly acclaimed online fashion retailer Net-A-Porter. The label, which first launched in June 2006 in the duo's New York store, Butik, is influenced by their Danish upbringing. Comprised of simple but luxurious cotton knit basics, the stellar shift dresses are sure to become the fashion-insider's new staple.
Natalie Massenet, who founded the fashion emporium six years ago, celebrated the news with an intimate dinner at Tom Aiken’s restaurant, Tom’s Kitchen, in London Monday night. Massenet has witnessed triple-digit growth in her site’s traffic, particularly from the U.S., where she recently opened a 50,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Long Island City to accommodate the ever-increasing orders. Net-A-Porter also now has its own established U.S. website portal, which boasts same-day delivery for customers in Manhattan.

More than just a pretty mannequin, former model Helena Christensen is launching a new line of clothing, Christensen & Sigersen.
Although the Danish beauty – who was Miss Denmark 1986 – has already dipped her toe into indie fashion retail with downtown NYC’s Butik in the West Village. The new line of eclectic cropped jackets, silk layer dresses, and cotton shirts will range in price from $140 to $530 and will also be sold on Net-a-Porter.com starting in March. "I liked the idea of launching somewhere that's niche but also so big," Christensen recently told WWD. "The thought that a woman in Papua New Guinea could be wearing a pair of our pants is amazing."
While the model celebrated her new venture a party thrown in NYC by Net-a-Porter’s Natalie Massenet with glitterati pals such as Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Tom Parker Bowles and Sara Buys, Christensen is actually seen as a credible fashion insider – rather than an interloping celeb turned "designer". Unlike many high profile musicians whose extent of fashion training has been getting dressed, models that try their hand at playing fashion designer tend to evoke less ire from the fashion cognoscenti. They typically spend more time with actual designers, have more exposure to the inner workings of the fashion business and the design process, and, unlike celebs & musicians, are seen as part of the fashion business rather than well-heeled, but talentless, outsiders.
