Helena keeps her cool for a greener wash
Helena Christensen is to be the face of a campaign urging people to "do a good turn" and wash clothes at 30 degrees to help save the environment, it was announced today.
The supermodel, in partnership with washing powder Ariel, is to feature in a TV advertisement urging a more environmentally friendly approach to using the washing machine.
"Simply switching the dial on your washing machine to 30 degrees can save up to 40% of the energy used in each load," Helena, a keen environmentalist, said.
"Sometimes the environmental issues we face today seem overwhelming, but we can all do our bit and turning to 30 degrees with Ariel is just one small way we can all help make a difference."
With the Energy Saving Trust, Ariel will also be taking an energy saving roadshow to shopping centres around the country.
The roadshow will offer a range of tips on how to save energy in their own homes, as well as inviting them to take part in complimentary energy saving audits.
The campaign comes after eight leading British firms last week launched a campaign to help shoppers cut carbon emissions.
Over the coming months, Marks & Spencer has said it will relabel almost three quarters of its clothing ranges to encourage people to wash them at the more environmentally friendly lower temperature of 30C.
