RAFW 2010 rumours
The hottest rumour surrounding Rosemount Australian Fashion Week is that former international supermodel Helena Christensen will make a guest appearance.
Christensen has ties to Australia with her bestie and former flatmate, Gail Elliott, whose Little Joe Woman colelction will show at 12 noon on May 4th at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. In their younger days, Elliott and Christensen lived in a apartment in New York with Cindy Crawford.
Now based in Sydney, Elliott is the designer for Little Joe and the word is Christensen will be the star of Elliott's parade.
In previous years, stars of RAFW have included Sophie Dahl, Jerry Hall, Ivanka Trump and Jodie Kidd.
Each year, designers try to lure an international model.
"I have heard talk of Helena for this year," says Kathy Ward from Chic Management. "But in the past few years, RAFW has chosen Australian models who are doing well, like Alyssa Sutherland and Myf Shepherd. Myf is confirmed but Alyssa is trying to rearrange her schedule to be here this year. They both love coming home."
Securing a big-name model such as Christensen requires big bucks. We're talking a $100,000 appearance fee, business-class international flights and five-star accommodation while here.
"If you can offer them a campaign to shoot while they are here, that can also act as a sweetener," Ward says.
