Hello Sailor !!!

espadrilles (another spring trend)...also fit right into this...:flower:

Really ? Never made that link but my fluids are rather slow so perhaps you're right, I do so hope not.

The whole stripe-thing is far too close to the popster look so I'm hoping on a cool breeze for Nautical. Even if It would be pretty intriguing to see what happens when styles collide.

softgrey, are these them? They kind of made me think of the ropes and hardware on a sailboat......

I totally knew that the espadrilles we're gonna be big this season, I brought up a topic months ago talking about how do I think it's gonna be the big thing...

About the nautical thing, I love it, the best inspiration on incorporating a nautical feel to your wardrobe would be the spread from last month's Vogue, when they used gold, navy blue and white...also incorporating the big roped necklace from Helmut Lang, Lanvin gold beaded skirts, Proenza's beaded rope necklace, the YSL white balloon skirt, Little brook brother's navy blazers

im loving this

no spike..they are canvas flats with a leather cord that wraps around the ankle...

A 1970s Simplicity pattern I own.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but JeanPaul Gaultier has been doing the nautical stuff for years! Remember princess Caroline's striped evening gown? And the espadrilles are also a classic (Castañer) in the mediterranean coasts . We call them espadreñes in the Balearic Islands. AND the blue/white/red fashion has been a classic for spring since I can ever remember!! Nothing new here! Fashion is definitely becoming repetitive.

Shadow--you are absolutely correct. Gaultier has had two really big undercurrents in his work that crop up very, very regularly: corsetry and all things nautical.

And I've been a big fan of the sailor-girl look ever since I was a kid. The first dress I ever owned that I liked I got when I was 8 years old, which consisted of a boxy little red middy jacket with white buttons and piping and a white pleated skirt with red piping. I am convinced that this little sailor suit was the first chic outfit I ever wore ;)

i have these trouser that are nautical, vintage dior not sure when from, lover them at the time, never worn them but now im not so sure on them what do you think. sorry about the arful picture

?

question. I have worn sailor stuff a long time. white pants.
stripey french marinier jumpers by st james & le petit bateau. I have about 7 of them in various combos of white , navy, french blue, etc.
the real french marinier jumpers. [picasso & warhol wore the same jumpers]

when someone comes up to me and asks 'is that gaulthier?' since JPG also wears & shows marinier jumpers, whats the best reply? ...

no im embarassed youre comparing me to JP?

Gaultier has always sent out runway versions of the Breton fisherman's striped tee-shirt for both men and women - it's a French fashion classic - hence his ' Hello sailor !!! ' adverts , a la Fassbinder , for his men's eau de toilette .

Yves Saint Laurent always sent out versions of the Breton fisherman's smock - another fashion classic that he used for both men and women .

I think that the best reply that you could give is that you admire this ethnic classic and why should you pay hundreds of euros for the Gaultier version when you can purchase an original for a fraction of that .:innocent:

The Gaultier sailor top is exceptionally well made though. Mine is made out of seven seperate pieces of jersey cloth with invisible seams. Only cost me twenty quid as well...
