Hermes is like Burberry, except whereas Burberry can easily reinvent their signature style and make it modern, Hermes fails at doing that. But then again, I doubt that Hermes has a want or need to change, and I think their consistence to classic and contemporary menswear is needed in an industry built on change.
while i understand that hermes fits into the category with big brands like burberry and gucci and dior and prada and the like, it also follows -- if it didn't indeed create -- the model for brands that promote one image widely but who have an entirely different image for those who actually shop there. it's like they want the public to think of it one way to get people in the door, but once one steps through the door, one finds it's actually more fashionable and dare-i-say trendy than most would guess. in that way, it's like dsquared2 where most people think it's all fast fashion until one gets their hands on one of their blazers or dresses or outerwear etc.
