Highlights: Obvious, subtle, or non-existant?

i never ever had highlights,

gone from redhead to light-ish ash brown two years ago
and i love my hair color (which also happens to be close to natural)
but i avoid any red-ish ginger tone, had enough of reddish to last me
a lifetime (plus red-ish tones seem quite popular = to avoid (imho))

the one coulour i could change it for is a master grey melange
(different tones of grey) but this can wait for a few years. :ninja:

I hate reddish tones on my hair, and I soo regret dying my hair blonde a while ago  I went back to my normal colour, which is a medium brown, and because of the sunbaths, my hair has some natural highlights, that are even a lighter shade of my haircolour, nothing blonde...

I naturally have blond hair, and my favorite is in the summertime when my hair naturally lightens because of the sun. Looks so natural :) of course, I have a little help from some lemon juice, but...

I have never had my hair professionally colored/highlighted, whatever. BUT, I was thinking of perhaps low-lights...it would be temporary, however, because heavens knows that if I did something permanent, I would regret it. I don't want to have to bleach my hair back to its natural color.

beware elle,
as my hairstylist has rightly confessed,
one can never go back to natural colour with chemical/natural products..

natural colour never comes in a bottle

I don't know why everyone hates chunky highlights so much. Whether they're "so in" or "so out" I could care less. My "highlights" are chunky and I love them. I've never looked better. I have blonde hair with brown lowlights. On certain people they work, and on certain people they don't. I just get really bored with my hair, and one color would just bore me to no end. I would be right back in my stylists chair the next day having her put the lowlights back in. Anyway, it all blends together because my underneath is completely brown. Whether this is out or not, once again, I don't care because it suits me :P

i should take a digital cam to school one day and you could all have a laugh at the look alike clones running around with skunk hair hahaha

my hair is soo dark that it's hard to colour it...i tried to tint the ends dark blue...like ahhgucci was talking about, but it didn't even show up on my dark hair...

lena..i'm with you...the colour that i would really love to have is silvery/grey...i think it's so elegant and sexy on a woman...i guess that will happen eventually!!

My raven tresses are my trademark, I have never and would never put those highlights in my hair. Everyone and their mother has them. I like being "different" :flower:

Lena- you have to just let it grow out right? Like I said in a previous post, my old stylist screwed up my hair (it was soo gorgeous all dark brown with light brown and natural) by bleaching in the highlights (I asked for maybe a light brown, kind of caramel and got platinum). Now, my new fab fab fab stylist has to cover them up with a semi-perm. in my almost natural colour. I had to cut 6 inches of basically fried ends off and it's hell.... but by September, the fake colour will be gone! :D

maybe we should bring back the afro, complete with skunk chunks of course :P

The price for thermal reconditioning is dropping (where I live anyway) so my guess is that we're going to be seeing a lot more stick-straight hairdo's. I wish curls and soft waves would come back into fashion. They would look so dreamily perfect with all the flouncy skirts that are out right now!

Oh, that would be funny. I love a mean laugh every once in a while...... :innocent:

I have triangle highlights that get all split up when I do my hair, it ends up looking pretty cool, but I have to get them redone. :(

I have naturally red hair with one large and rather obvious gray patch on the top of my head. It looks like a really stupid skunk stripe, but it's there naturally and I'm afraid that if I try to color it, it'll turn hot pink or something. Yarg.

I like natural, subtle highlights

but I HATE the streaky, hugely contrasting highlights like those Herbal essence types:

I like the way hair changes under the sun in the summer naturally. it's prettiest like that when my hair has surprising golden streaks through the brown

I agree....do what you like and what looks good on you.

Highlights or no highlights, everyone should do what makes them feel comfortable! If I feel like going blonde I will. If I feel like being a brunette I will. That's the way it should be!!

i have black hair and have decided to grow it out. however, its very 'flat' looking like there are no natural highlights at ALL. i was thinking of getting some very, very barely noticeable brown (not reddish brown though) highlights just to get the look of some texture. what do you guys think. i mean anyway its going to look fake because people with my hair color dont have highlights but i just want to know your opinions.

its either the white bleached blonde with the thick bangs or a nice classic brunett. i dont think anything inbetween is really that hot right now, but i do know that i decided to do both those clolors to my hair. i know it may sound a little extreme but i think its hot and hey . . . . you only live once!
