highlights are a YES--as long as they're extremely natural looking.
my hair is highlighted in teeny tiny pieces in three or four colors...it took about 3 1/2 hours the first time; now it takes about two for touch ups. sometimes in allure they have articles about this kind of highlights, the techniques stylists use to get them, and the price of these highlights...the result is "model hair." (my coloring (hair and complexion) = natasha poly...i'm not a blonde)
if you see your stylist painting your hair in chunks, run! i have experienced BAD stylists...so finding a good one is key. you're really, really lucky if you find someone to do decent highlights on you for under $250 a pop...and there are stylists who actually charge more than this and suck. so it pays to have good references...ask people you see out where they got their hair done..and be willing to splurge if you are going to have your hair highlighted.
that is, if you like the natural, "model hair" look..
