i apologize in advance, this is a REALLY long article. ugh, i dont know. but i cant wait to see the ads..
Sadly we are reaching an age were the general populous is no longer interested in design and a label's longevity and instead are looking for a recognizable face to emulate. As a result you have girls like Britney, Paris and Beyonce peddling the “affordable luxury” of a product that will fade when they do. Although I do see a place in fashion for celebrities to help promote a product, case in point Nicole Kidman for Chanel No 5; she breathes new life into a product that has survived the ages with class and dignity, rather than having the product to rely on “celebrity recognition” to drive sales.
As soon as I read the title, I was thinking: 'Lame'. Ms. Knowles doesn't even emulate the preppy image Hilfiger promotes.
Well definitely that is part of it, every major label remarkets itself every few years to stay in vogue and cater to the market. I feel Lagerfeld chose Kidman because she does embody to a certain extent the elegance that is Chanel, and this idea of elegance is one that Chanel has used for decades, rather than some new pop diva, who doesn't even conform with a labels image pushing the idea of being a "true star". Sorry I’m just ranting here, I’ve been bombarded with Britany trying to tell me to "be curious" for way to long. Curious about what?
I just dont c Beyonce as a Hilfiger kinda person and vice versa .. and yeah I do agree with Ollie about Nicole Kidman for Chanel No.5 .. I personally thought it was a good choice.
