I think they're irresponsible when one of the most dangerous things a woman can do is have sex with a gay or bi man. We have this disease destroying an entire continent as we speak, yet jackasses like Tom Ford and his ilk are promoting this
Last stats I heard, in the US the age group contracting HIV in the largest numbers is late teens/early 20s. So I view some of those Abercrombie & Fitch ads to be truly irresponsible and potentially destructive.

how brainless you are!
firstly, it is no safer or less safe having sex with a straight person or a gay person. the fact is that is somebody has an infection, you can catch it.
there is nothing dangerous about anyone having sex with anybody as long as you use protection or neither person has an infection.
secondly, you are right, the largest age group contracting HIV is teens and early 20's which is due to the fact that a lot of them are having unprotected sex. also note that the majority of these are infact hetrosexual and not homosexual. the numbers of homosexual's contracting HIV is going DOWN where as the numbers of straight people contracting it is going UP.
thirdly, you obviously have a problem with gay/bi people seeing as you have these strong views about them being dangerous, but for your information, homosexuality has been around since the beginning of time and will be around forever, it isnt a disease and isnt something to be looked down on,
so before you post these rediculous remarks, wake up and smell the KY

Gang bang and those two do not compute ...

I liked the Volkswagen ad that was widely viewed as gay, but I am not a fan of the Gucci ads and similar. I do think the Gucci woman is a sl*t, and I am not the target audience. Are you serious? HIV does not discriminate, it affects men, women and children whatever their sexuality may be. To say that sleeping with a gay/bi man is dangerous is wrong and a very naïve and narrow minded statement to make.
If you want someone to blame for the spread of HIV and Aids then look at the pope’s view of contraception.:innocent: Surely that's done/doing more harm than a few Gucci ads?

The Gucci Envy ad I posted features Frankie Rayder on the left and Adriana Lima (pretty sure) on the right.:flower:

The girl to the left i think is Adriana Lima, the girl to the right is not a girl, but a swedish guy called Emil.

interesting point...im kind of oblivious so ive never noticed the "homosexuality" in ads

Me too! And here I thought it was my proximity to San Francisco. I guess (as much as I love some of these images) the ads didn't stand out to me because well, isn't this sort of thing just normal? ;)

Yes, I am. HIV does not discriminate in that it's just a virus looking for a good home. However, the sexual "recipient" is always at a very significant statistical disadvantage in the exchange. I believe the stats for men vs women are 1:6, and I suspect the men vs men ratio is much higher. (IOW: if the man is infected, the woman is 6x more likely to pick up the virus than the man would be if the woman were infected.) I understand it may not be PC, but the stats back me up on this. If a man has HIV, the chances of his having gotten it from either a sexual encounter with another man, or sharing needles, are good. Now I'm talking about the US, not Africa--the situation there is quite different.

I'm with you on the Pope, and I can't think about the statements from the African bishop of the woman who refuses to use condoms with her HIV+ husband without becoming enraged. But actually this kind of "We're sticking to our storyline regardless of the facts and reality" attitude has been taken by both ends of the spectrum. It's just that the trail is a bit cold on the other side. You may want to look into how AIDS came not to be treated like every other public health emergency in US history, and how the activists who made it happen (now all or virtually all dead from the very same disease) regretted their actions.

What I'm saying here is not fueled by hate one iota--I'm a pragmatist. That's why I think the Pope's position is just as ludicrous as insisting that AIDS should be treated any differently than tuberculosis, syphilis, etc.

you are very WRONG again

Yes, very. All a man needs to do to contract the virus is have unprotected sex with the trading of bodily fluids to get infected. Doesn't matter who his partner is.

OK, let's say I am wrong. Show me some current stats from a reliable source that prove your point. All I'm hearing is a bunch of yelling. I'd like to see some facts that back up your position.

^ maybe you should be backing up YOUR facts seeing as you were the one who started these rediculous allegations

This THREAD has gone WAY off TOPIC! Acid, if you choice please CLOSE this thread. It has become quite offensive, and the information is false.

yes please!........way out of respect.....thanks 4 the info acid

okay, now that we are back on topic...

Specifically with regard to advertising, not lifestyles: How does everyone feel about those ads that do appear gratuitously sexual and negate the product they are supposed to be selling? This is a hot topic on a lot of advertising related forums.

Let's face it some of the images are downright violent. If they were "straight" ads women's groups would (and do) have a fit! Likewise if they were racial.

I know some of the ads in the local rags just show way too much or are way too um, colorful (p*rn*gr*ph*c, deviant, etc.) for my taste.

Some go well beyond shock value. Bottom line is the product can get completely lost if the ad is too graphic, don't you think? Also doesn't it insinuate a stereotype?

I think, as far as fashion ads go anyway, that it's become such a normal thing to see sexually charged images that even if there is some shock value (like in the case of the Gucci ad's blatent homo-erotic nature) it doesn't really deter from the product itself. Also, because fashion labels are so much about an image, not just clothes, the ads really are a big part of it, and if anything would promote sales. In a weird way I think sex and fashion kind of go hand in hand, more so then say a car ad with sexual imagery. I can't really explain why I think it makes sense for fashion ads, but in other markets I think sex is incredibly overused. I remember a series of Herbal Essences shampoo commercials a few years ago that had women using the product and imitating orgasms....even though I can see the message (our shampoo is THAT good) it's just like, why???

And I agree, there is a fine line between effective and ineffective use of sexuality to sell a product. Once you cross the line and take something from insinuating to actually demonstrating, it loses it's effectiveness all together and essentially takes away from the product.

Good questions you raised polyphony.
