the rise of homoerotic themes in ad campaigns..
hi,
i noticed that there's a rise in fashion ad campaigns that use a homoerotic theme..
i think because people are used to sex in advertising, advertisers are turning to homosexuality... homosexuality is of course nothing new but it's definitely more socially acceptable than it has been in the past. the use of homoerotic themes could also be a way to target another demographic.
examples: Miu miu ad of s/s 02 where one girl sits with her back to the camera with her hand hidden under another girl's skirt; dolce & gabbanna mens ad campaign s/s 06 - one man lays naked while two stare, an anonymous man zips his fly while another identified man in the back does his tie perhaps suggesting dressing or un-dressing for a little
; another d&g ad a man lays on a table while another looks to be climbing on top... while two men again watch...
what do you think? do you think it's effective in advertising? or are you disgusted or offended? or does it make no difference ?
