How Do Clothes Fit Different Body Shapes?

I feel much better in clothing when I have a thin, willowy frame.

Unfortunately, I now have a big butt. Guys like it, I don't. :ninja:

Sometimes listening to what the guys have to say is a good thing :D If I hadn't, I never would've known my hips were sexy ...

I have always been a yo=yo with my weight. I have definitely run the gamut of sizes and have been underweight to overweight. My sister and I joke that between the two of us we have a pair of seven jeans in every size they come 24-32. We should open a shop! Clothes look much better on me when I'm thinner. I'm 5'9 and the weight I look best at is 130-135 lbs. My style also changes... when thinner I like to wear khaki shorts and little polo shirts... when I'm heavier its more oxford shirts and jeans or trousers and oxfords shirts or a-line skirts and maybe a 3/4 legnth top.

When I get heavier my weight goes to all the wrong places, instead of filling out my breast and butt nicely it hits my stomach, arms and waist. All upper body fat, its not distributed evenly. So I tend to wear more cardigans, blazers and things that cover up my stomach. Try to stay away from dresses and sleeveless tops and stick with 2 piece separates.

At a small weight I have the freedom to expand my warerobe and not worry about having a big tummy and heavy arms to hide.

there's a reason why fashion uses skinny, not "normal" women as models. clothes simply look better. it's the truth and makes me a sad girl :(

I think clothes fit you better at a smaller weight. I just lost about 30 pounds and everything just fits better and I feel better becasue i no longer have to worry so much if my stomach is hanging out or not! But really it is how one carries themselves that makes the difference.

I agree with everything you said. And during college, I got a bit more of a butt... it's not quite J.Lo territory, but guys seem to like it. Still wondering why.

Congratulations PinkLady!!! I think clothes definitely look better on me when I am at a smaller size. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year ago, and my metabolism is so slow, I've gained a few pounds and I don't like the way clothes look on me. :(

I can say one thing - I FEEL better when I'm at a smaller weight, wearing clothing. I have much more confidence in what I wear.

same here..it just makes you feel less self conscious i reckon

when i was super skinny i used to dress very flamboyantly, now i just tend to cover up more and i hate it so. very...depressing.

This is also true as well as picking the correct size in clothing (not wearing clothing too tight or too baggy), picking items that compliment or are "forgiving" on your body type.

models are just hangers for clothes. I have no problem with that, it is when celebs turn into clothes hangers. Hello, thats what models are for!

I actually think that clothes look better when the body frame isn't quite so thin and willowy. I think that the clothes come alive when they're actually hugging curves as opposed to just hanging lifelessly.

I agree about feeling better at a "smaller" weight, therefore I always feel clothes fit better, I'm not the type to want to be super skinny though, I think women can be attractive in clothing at many different sizes, it just about knowing what looks good and fits best, and makes you feel good.

I agree!
Welcome to tFS! :flower:

In my case, clothes don't always look better. I am and always have been stupidly thin (it isn't such a blessing, like so many people tell me). Whenever I try to find a shirt or pants, in most stores, they only go down to size small. Which is apparently, 90% of the time, too big. They rarely have extra small but always have extra large. Most of the time when I see something I absolutely love, it never fits me right (or is way out of my budget!). All the clothes I buy end up being too big. And I can't always shop in the petite section because I'm 5'7", as my arms and legs end up being a bit too long.

I think it depends on what you're wearing. Like a pair of jeans look great when you have some curves and bit more 'junk in the trunk'. But mini-skirts definitely look better on ppl who are willowy and leggy.

I would imagine that clothes would fit you better at a smaller weight ... unfortiantly i have either monster hips or a non esistant waist cos pants just hang off me but fit around the hips :( so i imagine i wouldnt have this problem if i wasnt so dumpy.

I wouldn't mind going up in weight, if the weight went to the "right places". But it doesn't. When I go beyond my 'idea body weight' for my height (97-115) -- instead of looking curvy and sexy. I look top heavy: Fat rolls around my waist, thick arms, big gut, face gets bloated and thick. Not good.

The extra weight does not compliment me, actually it makes it very difficult for me to wear dresses, belts, sleeveless apparel. etc. When I go up in weight, I don't fill out like a hourglass (aka Marilyn Monroe) my body ends up looking unevenly proportion.

I think it depends on your body type. People with hour-glass shapes tend to do better with a little extra weight because it makes them look like curveous bombshells. Pear Shape, reverse pear shape and Apple Shapes don't.

Thats why I think the hourglass body type is the most desirous. I wish I was built like that. Halle Berry has the ultimate hourglass shape.

i'm underweight (102 pounds, 5'6"). that's just how i am, i do NOT have an eating disorder, thank you. anyways, it's REALLY hard to find jeans that fit well. usually, they are just right in the waist and baggy in the butt and legs, or perfect in the legs and butt and way too small in the waist. designers forget that girls have hip bones that are a certain width apart! if i had a lot of money i'd start a jeans line for thin girls because most jeans do not fit us. my friends look at me like i'm crazy when i tell them that. a lot of jeans also have some extra baggage on the sides of the thighs that i can't fill in either.
