Dear oh dear. This is wayyyyy too overpowering on me. I bought a 3.4oz bottle blind about a year ago, and only wore it today for the first time as it was pretty cold outside, and was smothered by the scent.

Any ideas on what to layer it with, to undermine the smokiness?

I really disliked it the first time I applied it, but this time round, I think I'm starting to like it. I'd just sprayed way too much last time (a spritz on either wrist and one on the neck). This time I only spritzed it on one wrist and blotted it on the other, and it smells much better. Definitely not love at first application, but it's growing on me. Maybe I wouldn't have to ebay away the bottle, after all.

Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist

I like it well enough, but aren't head over heels for it. I only just applied it, so am yet to discover how the dry down would pan out, but I'm just not that into the opening, unlike say Sarassins. Think I prefer Apres L'Ondee. Besides, iris isn't one of my favourite notes in perfumes, so it could also be down to that.
