How will this world wide financial crisis alter your shopping habits?

i don't think i'm going to buy more basic pieces... in fct, quite the opposite. i'm going to keep all of my basics and invest in fewer, but more noticeable items. probably only one or two pairs of "it" heels, if that :(.

it's times like these i don't like mexico's lack of thrift stores!

I get some spending money from family (no real income, no savings, no stocks like most responsible adults) so what I've been spending is the same. Im just a student but to be honest I really dont see the economic crisis around me, actually if I didnt know it was going on I'd think the economy is doing good since the dollar is picking up against the euro and pound and gas is so super cheap right now. Luckily I dont think my brothers business has really felt it either. I have noticed though that prices on clothes have gone up quite a bit and I dont think I've gotten anything for full price this season. Most pieces are just not worth it to me at these prices and I know a lot more of it will end up on sale so thats something thats changed with my shopping habits. I noticed people arent bidding as high on ebay right now either, it's a good time to get deals there as well. So ironically this winter I ended up with more stuff for the same amount of money.

I've been doing the opposite and spending more, taking advantage of all the crazy sales. :ninja:

I mean when you can buy a brown patent Muse for $400 what is a girl supposed to do? I'm trying to be picky, so I generally keep what my fiance likes since he has a good eye. I also don't really think I follow trends, I try to just buy what I love at all times, so I don't think my stylistic choices are changing. If anything I'm taking more risks with color/shapes because the price of bags aren't giving me a heart attack anymore. And I will still get something at full price if I  it (and feel like it won't go on sale).

But financially my job is secure and I have no credit card debt (paid that all off this year). If that wasn't the case, I'd save up more.

Well, I am a student as well and I think I wouldn't feel the crisis that much if I wasn't on an exchange year in Germany. All my money and grants are in pounds and I have to pay rent and buy stuff in euros. And because the pound is SO low now, it's kinda sick and I have no intention of buying any clothes for at least a few months. Or until I get a job here, which will be necessary if the pound stays where it is now.

thanks for the NYTimes article lucky...
that was a good read....
comme des garcons skirts for $129...?!?
:o

:hardhead:...
and i missed it!!!

For some time I was very worried.
But then I figured - that if someone is spending money someone else is getting richer... business is generated. There is less likelihood of another company going insolvent.

Therefore I have continued to shop as much as I usually do. Nothing more or less. As always I do wait for stores to go on sale.

Cheapest tine to by a fur is now maybe??

Ok, fur is a luxury item and there is currently a credit crunch / recession in place. People have naturally cut back on luxuries. Furthermore right at the end of the sales (i.e. now) I know the major stores are knocking around 70% off the price of furs. Both the fur salons in Saks and Neiman Marcus have done anyway. I know someone who works at one in DC and tellsme that and I bought a coat and a jacket for me and my lil sister the other week.

Just wondered whether you guys have discovered this to be true?

Ps - a tip - if you go inito the fur salon in Macys (Boston downtown) they will give you a ticket for a free facial at Macy's - I couldnt use mine though as ran out of time! Typical.

I am less sure about standard furrier shops but one would imagine the position to be the same?

I am definitely looking for more individual items that express my own style. I can't afford to keep up with the latest fashion and I don't really want to. I am looking to buy from independant designers and labels, vintage and second hand clothing. I am also thinking of doing a spot of clothes swapping when I get bored of my clothes.

It makes no difference to me. I actually benefit from the food prices getting lower and the sales and such...I'm having a jolly good time :ninja:
