Hye Park (pronounced "hi") makes becoming a high-profile model seem as simple as signing up for science class. For this pretty face, the road to the runways of Louis Vuitton and Prada was literally a walk in the campus park. She went to an open casting at the University of Utah when she was a sophomore and was discovered. That was July of 2004. In the blink of an eye, the wispy 21-year-old was working many of the coveted shows at New York Fall 2005 Fashion Week, including Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui -- her two favorite designers.
Park still lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, where her family moved when she was 13 from Seoul, Korea. "I don't really like New York," whispers the model. "It's too crowded. I like Paris better. It's more quiet and fun." After just one year of modeling, Park's career is soaring. She is one of the most recognizable models among a handful of the new Asian beauties on the fashion scene. But when she's not zigzagging all over the world -- gracing covers of Korean Vogue and W, shooting a Roberto Cavalli campaign and catwalking for French couture houses -- she's just like most young ladies her age. "I like shopping, and I spend a lot of time on Cyworld." (The website is the Korean equivalent of MySpace.) And when she's done modeling? "I want to be a nurse," says the sensational biology major.
