I hate my hair - rant thread

I in a DESPERATE need of a haircut!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My last one was in febuary, and my hair grows especially faster than average. My hair looks crazy, whatever I wear does not look good because I don't look good, I don't look good because my hair is a nest! When I work out, I just want to shave my head! I hope I will have the time next tuesday to get a perfect cut. I can not wait!

i'm the opposite, i got a haircut done around april and the stylist layered it sooo much! i am a fan for layering, but this was too much. can't wait for it to grow out!! also it's pretty dry hair with frizz (naturally) and i am not sure what to do with it. :(

Im trying to grow my hair from a short bob to an "Irina" but my hairstylist stupidly cut a short layer in the back of my hair at the end of last year which is now taking forever to grow out. Theres a horrible bump in my hair from where Ive been trying to grow it out. Ive managed to grow it to a length where it could be cut out and be one length but that means going shorter than Ive ever been before.

Im now frantically searching the web looking for haircuts before my appointment next Wednesday.

ARGH! Why dont hairstylists ever listen!

most of the time, i hate my hair...
it's really, really thick and curly.
i had japanese straightening done to make it less curly,
because before i seriously looked like i had an afro.

now, because of the japanese straightening,
my hair is so brittle.
it's not that my hair is really dry
because sometimes i get dandruff from it being too oily,
but my ends are always snapping off and breaking!!!.
and what makes it worse
is that i have this complusive behavior and
i continue to snap off my split ends

luckily,
i've found some products that make it managable
(frederic fekkai shampoos and conditioners, rené furterer hair goop)
but most of the time,
i can't stand my hair!!!!.

I still haven't had my haircut!!!
I just can't come up with the funds right now ( sad, I know)....

Is there anything I can do to make it look less like a curtain?....
Give it some movement so it doesn't just hang...
without using a curling arm b/c I don't have one.

^ like thin it out a bit, shag it and then throw some high or low light in ?

^ Thank you....
but I really need to do something for free....
I can't afford a stylist right now- I am so broke. :(

I may just have to embrace the long curtain hair, wear a headband around my forehead and say I'm going for a hippie look.:innocent:

change your parting, I assume you have a centre parting at the moment? a side parting will instantly make your hair look different, if you already do have a side parting just flip it to the other side.

You can add more volume to your hair by drying your hair upside down. Try to use only a small amount of product because it will just weigh your hair down and make it just "hang".

try some up dos or brush your hair out of your face with a headband or head wrap.

I am angry with myself. I used to have very long curly hair (much like Keri Russell's) and always got compliments on it. In college, I began dating a guy who was very controlling, and he wanted me to straighten my hair each day...and I did. I did this for years and still do because if I try to wear it curly now, it looks awful. On top of drying it out from the daily torture of making it straight, it has gotten much thinner because I lost too much weight. I had my stylist cut off about an inch of damage 1x per month for the past few months. I now have hair that is about 1 or 2 inches past my shoulders. I am hoping that with proper nutrition and care, I can nurse it back to health and wear it in its natural state again ("Waitress" totally made me want my curls back). Plus...I finally ditched that boyfriend about a year and a half ago...

Being too busy studying I have totally not gone to the hairdresser.. my hair has also gotten very thin due to weight loss, is still quite thick and i also have natural curls in my hair.. this has made me embarrassed to go to the hairdresser... so I haven't been!

i like hair that is natural.. think Emanuelle Alt of Paris Vogue...(do you think she has her cut at hairdresers?)

I have even cut my own hair for quite some time, and I feel embarrases of going to the hairdresser after doing that!
lately i have just been wearing it in a ponytail i don't even want to straighten it as i might damage it and loose even more hair, a a girl that is really traumatising.

It's a vicious circle.. sorry for the rant!

This is how I am combatting my issues as well. I am ponytail girl each and every day. :(

I'm losing the battle against humidity. My hair ends up frizzing out, curling where it doesn't usually, and the lower 2/3rd is completely dry...ARGHH

Ugggh, add me to the list of people who hate their hair.

Mine is very long, thick and curly and is just boring me to tears. I need to do something with it. . .I'm sick of looking like I stepped out of Ye Olde Renaissance Faire all the time because of my hair.

But then I'm scared to death to do something with it because very few people know how to work with curly hair (or at least that's how it feels here) and I don't want to end up with an afro or needing to shave my head.

I also want bangs, but I think that's out of the question for someone with curls + roundish face. :(

  I really do feel badly for your hair issues, but the way you put that was just hysterical. I loved it!

Anyway, bangs could be a challenge with curly hair because even if you straighten them, in hot weather/humidity, they could curl back up and make you look 80s fabulous. Is your hair long? Maybe try some long layers to make it less bulky? Why don't you take a look at pics of other curly haired girls and bring them in to a stylist. Actresses, such as Keri Russell, Rebecca Gayheart, and Nicole Kidman, all have natural curls. I am sure they might offer some inspiration! :flower:

I guess we all want what we can't have, huh? My mom's Asian (Filipina) and she always says she hates how straight and flat her hair is. It's so fustrating because I'm half black and get my hair from my dad's side. I went years going with a simple braided ponytail because no one knew what to do with my hair until I simply cut it and realized I had nothing in common with my mom's hair. My hair is crazy and I hate having to deal with it.
It's just so interesting to read this thread and hear our fustrations with our hair-we all want the opposite, or something close to it.

ohh im so happy to find this thread and on a day when i really hate my hair too! so its slightly comforting knowing i'm not alone!
i have naturally very, very thick curly hair. when i was younger i use to straighten it with an iron (yes the kind you use on your clothes) what a horrible idea that was, i did it for over a year looking back on it, it really was just such a stupid thing to do but worked so well.
a year ago i cut my hair quite short in hopes of it growing back in more of a healthy state but i hated it short. i looked about ten years younger and not in a youthful way more in a little girl get your id checked everywhere you go sort of way. I hated it! Its grown back though my hair still isn’t long but I’ve gone back to dying it all the time. So its back to being horrible, dry and just pretty gross. I find I have to use about five different products to make it look okay which is quite annoying, I wish I could find just one that works but nothing seems to do it on its own. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyways the moral of my story is don’t use an iron on your hair and don’t get addicted to dying your hair either.

Glad to have made ya laugh. :p Though it really is how I feel some times. . .when I said my hair was long, I meant it. . .it's about to the small of my back, which means that old ladies and Ren faire people love it.

You're probably right that bangs for me are probably out of the question. . .I'd rather look like I was stuck in the 1400s than a mall rat from the 80s. Thanks for the advice about the long layers though, I'll keep on searching for a good look for me.

Also, to MademoiselleBleu. . .I'd try oil treatments on your hair. I highly recommend getting (virgin) coconut or jojoba oil and adding some to the damaged parts of your hair. Also, try taking prenatal vitamins . . .they'll help both your hair and your nails look great.

the hair absrob too many moisture and become very frizzy and thick now.
dont like how it feel
