The first issue of Icon America is here. Gro Curtis is the EIC of the magazine. He was previously the editorial director of V and has contributed to Vogue Hommes, Hero, GQ, Dazed, Interview RU/DE, and more. Kit Butler is interviewed by Dolce and Gabanna, Malick Bodian is interviewed by Kim Jones, and Leon Dame is interviewed by John Galliano.

Who is funding this? It's exciting to have a fresh title (albeit such an overused word) but it's already reeking of INDUSTRY PLANT.

Yeah, seems dated. Gro Curtis is just awful as stylist. His clients were Courtney Love and Jessica Lange… My point exactly!!! Let him stick to the Golden Goose. This is bad. Next!!!

Why is this magazine called Icon America? I see one iconic American on the cover, followed by three random male models, who aren't iconic or American.

I love my Kit tho, so he gets a pass, and he's definitely iconic.❤️

I like the covers with Bodian and Butler. However, the cover featuring Butler is my favorite from the set. I picked up the issue featuring Bodian because I do like the colors and I do not want to search for the Butler cover everywhere. Also, I like the thicker paper stock, art direction, fashion stories, and content in this first issue. It is a handsome product.

It should be the opposite. Galliano on the cover and interviewed by the model or a regular journalist, same with D&G. Butler, Bodian and Dame can have eds inside, but do people really want to read interviews with them?

I decided to grab a copy of this and I chose Bodian’s. It’s about 200 pages, lots of content I’ll look at more closely in days to come. The fashion content feels a little more youthful than perhaps the magazine’s title would suggest, but plenty of content by or about men who are icons in their fields, from De Niro to Lauren to Galliano to McNally and more, Surprised Troye Sivan didn’t get a cover or even his name on the cover, since he has a feature inside. There’s a story on the sex pests Dean and Dan Caten. Advertorials for Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli and maybe 3 or 4 other editorials? It’s slim pickings when it comes to American men’s fashion magazines, so I’m happy this exists and I’m eager to see what Issue 2 will be.
