Sans Makeup, S'il Vous Plaît (NYT)

Oh wow, not at all what I have in mind when I think of this look... actually quite the opposite. Sparkly mascara, pastel eyeliners and eyeshadows and over-glossed lips, yikes. Sorry CarolineRose.

Yeah, that's why I said skip the eyes and lips. But if you just watch the first few minutes, their skin looks gorgeous!

Sorry for the double post, but here is a (bad) screenshot of the face in those videos before the glittery stuff. It's basically what I do when I am going to work and want to look more polished - a little foundation, concealer, and mascara. Normally at school or with friends I wear no makeup at all . . . I'm lazy.

Ahh... the French really get the aesthetic that I'm always going for! Don't get me wrong I love makeup but I don't want to look made up. Which is why I look to Clemence Poesy for inspiration. She always looks flawless yet not over done. She certainly represents the sans makeup look. Yet, I sometimes feel like I'm the only American women who would rather look like Clemence then Kim Kardashian or whoever makeup wise. And I get comments from people saying that I need to look more dolled up but honestly I don't think so. I wear makeup but in a minimal yet effective way. I can't be the only American (or any other nationality) that has had similar issues, right?

It's pretty common to go bare in DK. Actually no one does the whole Kim K thing, not anyone I hang out with...but then again most people at uni aren't really interested in looking anything but themselves. I do think there is a difference here based on the level of education and the amount of paint on your face.

^ Same in my country. Whenever someone dresses/does their make up like Kim K. you can tell they're kind of "low class". It really is like that...
then there's the alternative kids with messy hair and zero make up,
and then there are the other ones who like to dress nice, put a little make up on but still look like themselves.

YoninahAliza, you're not the only one ^_^ Kim Kardashian wears way too much makeup on a normal basis

i can't bring myself to wear full face of makeup everyday because i don't want to look wildy different without it and i go out a lot without it

thanks for the videos newprincesita and CarolineRose
it's so true that if you take your time with face makeup, you'll look much better and more natural. my cheeks get flushed so easily so i don't do blush daily, only when i'm going out at night / taking pictures

Clemence is my main style inspiration, as well. I also hate the stick-straight hair so many of our countrywomen find attractive. I don't EVER want to look like I've tried too hard.

Yes! Glad to see I'm not the only one who's not going for the Kim K look. It's a shame really because I think the natural look, with minimal products just really looks better on most people (even if they don't think it does). Too much makeup can really age a person (plus it's terrible for the skin). And I agree Virginielle, stick-straight (fried from the straightener) hair is just awful. It's just too made up. I like looking understated rather then flashy. So what products do people use to achieve this sans makeup look?

I personally think the key to such a look is moisturizer. I'm constantly applying it to keep my skin healthy and glowing. Currently using a drugstore brand called Top Care and I must say it works wonders. One of the nicest moisturizers I've ever used. I also am a fan of Covergirl's lashblast volume blasting mascara. Sometimes all I will wear is moisturizer, mascara and a little eyeliner (or no eyeliner depends on my mood). But for the most part I always want to look like I have nothing on and just enhance my natural beauty.

It's the same way in the Northeast of America, too. I don't think I've ever seen anyone in real life wearing the style or sheer volume of Kim K's makeup who was not likely to be a streetwalker.

It's hard for me lately, because after watching all of those girls on youtube piling on the makeup (with the drawn on eyebrows and fake lashes and shiny lipgloss and bright colored eyeshadow and such), I've noticed I've started to experiment with more obvious make up, which is rather frowned upon where I live and in the profession I work in... trying to get back to the no makeup look though!

I don't think you should refrain yourself from wearing obvious makeup as long as you make it your own. Natural skin + black eye liner looks awesome IMO. Or a certain colour of lipstick, which ever one you prefer, as long as it's the only kind of obvious make-up you're wearing. My thing is mascara, sometimes lots of it :ninja:

I think if you keep the skin looking really flawless and natural, the brows well shaped but not overplucked then you can experiment on your eyes or lips without looking trashy like Kim Kardashian often does. I like what Kim does though. Most of the time we are seeing her she is at an evening event or being filmed and wants to look glam.

^She looks like that going shopping, it is WAY too much makeup IMO.

believe it or not, a lot people here in LA (or at least the people i see) do the natural look as well. i hardly ever see people walking around with kim k cake faces. or maybe i don't get out enough :P

that Lisa Eldridge video was great . . . as soon as I saw it, I thought of this thread

I often am wearing a full-face of makeup, but it doesn't show. Chanel's Teint Innocence Compact and Lancome concealers are my favorite products for evening out my complexion, and they're nearly undetectable on the skin.

I'm not totally no-make up but I wear little make up. I only wear a little tinted moisturizer spf 15, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and lip stick or gloss. I want to enhance my features, not hide them.

I don't like other foundations, blush, highlighter, bronzer, concealor or lipliner. I don't want to look or feel like I have a mask on.

For those of you who like this look I cannot sing Burberry's eyeshadows enough praises, so absolutely natural ( none of the sparkles and glitter  ) and goes on like a dream. New discovery to me, but I'm now coveting the entire range.
