Interview February 2015 : Eddie Redmayne by Craig McDean

The cover is atrocious!! What a bad shot of him, there are some nice photos in the ed.

Totally agree. Don't get the love for this cover. He's not appealing at all on this cover and look 10 years older than he is.

i find him to be the ugliest celebrity out there so im not pleased with this lol
the editorial is great from a photographic point of view, but his face is gonna give me nightmares

Well, I applaud them for not making their decision on a cover star based on physical attractiveness.

He looks like a mad scientist on the cover so maybe it's a tongue in cheek nod to The Theory of Everything, but his mouth area irks me to no end. Constance Jablonski and Julia Nobis have an ed by Mikael Jansson inside by the way.

I find it sadly funny how people get away with calling Eddie & Benedict Cumberbatch ugly and disgusting with no backlash. If anyone would call any actress on the cover those names people will be outraged, I think...

Of course there would be outrage. People believe men can deal with this sort of thing better than women. It also doesn't help that these two are so unconventionally attractive. Either way, it's a double standard.

His mouth isn't that grumpy, I don't like the attempt.

Well, it's true that beauty is subjective. I find him extremely striking, precisely because he's not a "traditional beauty". Plus his style, talent and personality adds a lot. I'll take that over these vanilla Hollywood beefcakes anytime.

Hey, I find Adam Driver attractive, and i don't mind people like Miles Teller (see: the Prada ads thread) or even Benedict himself. So i'm not really in the position to judge anyone's taste :D - but since we're specifically talking about this cover/photo, it adds to my dislike for him as i truly find it unsettling, almost scary.
And if we wanna talk about double-standards, we could also argue how much space there is in media / film for men with ~peculiar looks vs women who in 99 per cent of the cases need to adhere to a certain standard of beauty/hotness, and how the internet revolts against them dare they be different in any way (see the crazy unrethouched vogue pics of lena dunham deal, for example) but that would be going way off topic.

I'm not so sure about that given the general vitriolic reaction I've seen online (not necessarily on tFS though) towards images of people like Lena Dunham, Beth Ditto, Gabourey Sibide or even Melissa McCarthy.

If people react with outrage when they hear a woman being lambasted for her looks I think it has more to do with the way in which female bodies are continuously picked apart. Even the most beautiful women in the world have someone who says they're too this or that, especially here - even though there is plenty of positivity on tFS as well.

Besides often do we really see an actress on the cover of a major magazine who doesn't confirm to societal standards of beauty? No matter how unique male celebrity looks he can still be considered a viable contender for magazine covers and judging by the legions of fans both Eddie and Benedict have, a sex symbol. Women don't have that luxury, especially when it comes to fashion imagery where often non-conventional beauty is either used as a prop or momentarily fetishized. The female Adam Drivers and Benedict Cumberbatches of the world don't usually get magazine covers, fashion campaigns or lead roles for that matter.

Back to Eddie Redmayne, the corresponding editorial seems a little try hard. He's a fairly proper English boy - not sure I buy him as a rebel.

^Yes, I was talking about comments on TFS.
I agree with you in you views but I wasn´t talking about the big picture just our forum. Even though those type of comments are not the majority, if they were about women the people making them will get reminders or warnings.

So happy to see Eddie on the cover.
He's extremely talented and absolutely deserves the recogntion he's finally getting for his work but also his style which is alaways on point. Very few actors take as many risks as he does when he comes to the red carpet. Besides he has one of most beautiful and striking faces in the business. The cover shot isn't very flattering but I like it. It's different and somehow very eyecatching in a wicked way. I love the Sid Vicious inspiration, the editorial is absolutely amazing. You can tell he's got some modelling background. Fantastic styling as always by Templer.

Can't wait to see the rest of the contents.

I liked the guy since seeing him in Black Death. Good for him being the new chosen Hollywood hype and all I suppose-- get it while you can Eddie.

Anyway, the cover shot is terrible. I get the Sid-thing, but he looks more like a dehydrated Keith Richards to me. Gross. Maybe it's deliberately "ugly" for a realness factor because whether he is what you would consider physically attractive or not, the guy has killer bone structure, and if they had chosen to shoot him in a more conventionally handsome angle for the cover, he would have no problems appearing so.

Weird how I can like Eddie but this editorial does nothing for me, while I don't care for Shia Lebouf, but his editorial was glorious. I guess it's because Shia owns his editorial by sheer force of raw sexuality, while Eddie seems to be just mugging. Oh well, anyone's better than another Johnny Depp feature... shudders.

(Enough with the red gradient, Fabien. Sheesh.)

I really do not understand the hype over Eddie.

The cover photographically is fantastic, the art direction is spot on - just a shame about the object being photographed, obviously he is being featured for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking but honest I'd much rather see something a little surprising? why not have someone like Wes Anderson? or Agata Trzebuchowska? her portrayal in Ida? hello!

I also don't like his image generally, for me he's not aspirational enough, like when I look at Chris Pratt or Chris Hemsworth I think 'great style, great image, great career' but with Eddie I can't help but compare him to a teenager although he is 33 he's not someone who I look at stylistically and think 'WOW I love what he's wearing' or 'he's so good looking' - I also don't like his character, I think he relies heavily on him being English - Burberry would never have backed him if he wasn't english.. just sayin'

i feel the exact same way, i just don't get why everyone is creaming their panties over him.
