Is anyone else on a diet for Crones or similar??

Hope you're feeling better soon Henriette

I eat wholemeal bread, not white bread... But only white rice/pasta... When it comes to vegetables I skin them, and take the seeds out of everything. I don't eat the stalks of anything, including spinach and beansprouts. I eat fish (even though I don't particularly like it) and chicken, but not a lot of red meat or fatty meats. Fruit wise I again peel them and avoid fruits that have too many seeds (like passionfruit or strawberries) I also avoid dairy products, and only drink Soy Milk. I love cheese, but I'm restricted to eating a very small amount if I do. And no cheeses that get stringy when cooked. Also, no nuts or dried fruit. I'm supposed to avoid chocolate or anything too high in fat content. Eat very simple biscuits and cakes, and avoid soft drinks, alcohol and coffee.

It's pretty hard, but I do allow myself some of these things, because I know they don't affect me personally. Sometimes it's a case of trial and error. Also, anxiety and high emotions can affect you. Not always bad emotions, if you get very very happy about something, it can trigger stomach pains or sickness.

Oh, also... I drink a glass of orange juice every morning with 1tsp of Psylliam Husks (sp?) mixed in... And this helps me greatly. The two times that I skipped this, I got sick. I started out with 1/2 a tsp in the morning, and 1/2 at night, and after a week stuck with the full tsp in the mornings.

It's all to do with soluble and insoluble fibres.

So sorry you are feeling ill Henriette  keep us posted on Monday and how it goes...good thoughts are going your way.

Belowen, I am not that up to speed with Crohn's so just throwing these out there...is Flax Seed Oil recommended? I buy the kind that is kept refrigerated and I use it in salads as part of my dressing and also take a spoonful a day with food.
How about CLA- conjugated linolic acid? I take a tab of it before each meal to help with digestion and when I don't take them, I can definitely tell...I am just thinking of things that are similar to psyllium husks.
I would also maybe look into drinking yerba mate for the antioxident effects.
And Alpha Lipoic Acid with each meal- for boosting immune system, multipying effects of vitamin C and E, and antioxident benefits as well.

A friend of mine takes flax seed oil for the same purposes... I haven't tried any of the others. This is the first step of what my Dietician is helping me with, if the husks don't work she probably will change me to the oil...

I do know someone who does a combo in the mornings involving a spoonful of flax seed oil with psyllium husk and dash of lemon now that I think of it.

thanks for the tips Belowen. after my procedure on tuesday, I'm stocking up on all of those foods you mentioned.

meanwhile, I'm recovering from a night of barf-o-rama. not a fun way to spend a beautiful weekend.

Good luck Henriette! Let us know how it goes

I had the colonoscopy/endoscopy yesterday...still recovering from the 28 horse pills that clean out the colon *ahem* ...after the barf-fest saturday & sunday, the pills just wiped me out.

the procedure itself wasn't that bad, they gave me a sedative, so it was like a dream, I was awake, but I can't remember most of it. I do remember watching the screen and seeing them do the actual biopsies with this little tube that "bites" the tissue...

the doctor said that i have colitis & gastritis, which are general terms for irritation of some sort. I have to wait until next tuesday for the actual results. for now, I'm vowing off coffee, alcohol, and all crappy foods. this whole ordeal has made me hyper-aware of what i'm putting into my body. just the thought of ingesting "bad" things makes me gag. I hope that this new attitude lasts. we shall see...and I'll keep you updated on anything I learn.

by the way, that "boost" stuff made me feel better, but its loaded with fructose...not good.

Ohhh Henriette, I'm glad you've discovered what the problem is... Even if it's something quite bad - knowing what it is sometimes makes it easier to handle. Because you can figure out ways to avoid triggering it...

Keep us posted :flower:
