The couple are now in the process of getting a divorce:

Jack White and model/singer Karen Elson have issued a press release saying that they are getting divorced. And they are throwing a party to celebrate.

The couple said in a statement, We remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee. We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow. In honor of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party. An evening together in Nashville to re-affirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family.

A divorce party? HA HA HA that's pretty hilarious. Kudos to them, though, if they can actually pull off the "happy apart" thing.

I am not surprised; there were a lot of rumours when he was touring with Alison Mosshart and the Dead Weather. Not sure if they had an affair, but there did seem to be some serious "Jack & Alison" chemistry between them.

We'll see what happens next ...

i think she just didnt want to live in Tennessee anymore. also he has quit the white stripes and says he will not have a solo career.

i dont think he'll be making the big bucks anymore.

i'm curious as to how the custody arrangement will be worked out.

what are you talking about? they met and married within the same month of meeting each other (june 2005)

also karen now has a green card for the US (she would need to be married for 5 years to keep it) so it makes sense that they are divorcing now....

the boutique she sent up in nashville closed a few months ago, so i imagine there wont be much besides the kids keeping her in nashville.

i beg to differ on the $ part. he started his own record label and is representing some amazing people. he might not be doing the white stripes anymore, but he plays with his touring acts: the dead weather, raconteurs, and most recently with wanda sykes..

on karen elsons album, she has a song about her lover finding another with black tornado hair, and im almost certain it was written about mosshart.

i like them both so im kinda sad about this. maybe it was a union for her to get her green card, but bummer still.

Green card aspect: hadn't thought about it!

Custody: yeah, it will be interesting to see how they manage that, esp. if Karen leaves Tennessee. I cannot see Jack leaving unless he moves his record label headquarters. He will be fine money-wise!!

Affair: don't know, but definitely some chemistry there. Just watch videos of Dead Weather live performances. Or even interviews. I am still curious to see if Alison and Jack end up together. And if they do, what a whole lot of sexy-quirky-cool THAT would be!

I like Karen and Jack too, thoough, and I know he was the one who encouraged her to record her songs. They seem to have had a good relationship for as long as it lasted: they have two sweet kids, and it is nice to know they can move along in a healthy - heck, even a fun - way!

Look, I think it's great when people can still have respect and love for each other in a divorce. But wanting to party and act like everything's cool? Dumb, I think. There are kids involved and no matter what, divorce is hard on kids. It's nothing to celebrate.

I was really shock to read about their divorce, as I really liked them as a couple and have been rooting for them as soon as I heard of their union. It's great to know they are still committed to each other as friends and partners in raising their children. Though I have to admit the idea of a celebrating divorce with a party is rather unorthodox, but I suppose they are quite an unusual pair. In the best way possible, of course.

Still, I can't help but feel a bit bummed about their split. Even if it seems like they're not! Haha.
