Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

This thread is amazing. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this? It's a video about how Jacqueline's pink suit is actually a Chanel knock-off b/c her advisers warned her that her overseas spending habits were unamerican. I bought Vanity Fair's issue w/ Jackie Kennedy and they recalled the assassination stating that she was wearing a Chanel suit. Also, her Wikipedia states that she was wearing Chanel.

I wonder if it was Chanel or a American made suit w/ French influence.

I just read the book that went with the exhibition of her clothes from the White House at the Met...she wore more Gustave Tassell,Givenchy,Balmain,Dior,Chez Ninon and others than is known. She looked amazing in dark pink!

i personally don't like her at all.:yuk: I find her ugly, conceited (without reason;-), and don't like her style so much. Too tight and simple.don't get me wrong i like clean-cut. I love Calvin and Narciso and Ralph. but her style is a no no. What about her anyway? and please just give me 1 reason she's famous!

Erm, call me crazy, but I think being the wife of one of the most celebrated US Presidents in history and a 1960s style icon and a philanthropist is reason enough to be famous

To me, Jackie was beautiful and a remarkable woman. She was cheated on relentlessly and quite publically by her husband and then lost him in an unbelievably horrific manner. Yet, she seemed to live and continue on for her children. People have said " She only married Onassis for his money" but to me, she married him to protect her children. After Robert Kennedy was assassinated, Jackie feared for her childrens safety and wanted them out of the country. Onassis helped her do this. So what? What mother would reject protecting her children?

Anyway, bottomline, this is a fashion forum and Jackie Kennedy Onassis is fashion and elegence through and through ;)

I absolutely love Jackie!
She is my def. of a strong woman who doenst have to be Hillary Clinton like...

Very, VERY well said!

oh I just read about them in the White House book! I think they were Italian but I can't remember the brand! grr

jackeline Kennedy was never an old lady. Even in her last days she had something youthful an vibrant about her. She was one of a kind, so vital, energetic and full of life. Her elegance was active.

Darren Aronofsky is rumored to be directing Rachel Weisz in a film about the former First Lady. And Katie Holmes will portray her in a miniseries for The History Channel.

I think they are both incredibly wrong for the part, although I know a lot of people respect Weisz as an actress.

Ughh... I can't believe Katie Holmes is going to play Jackie O. She probably only got the role because of Tom. I would perfer someone with much more acting experience to play the iconic first lady.

Agree so much!!
And I still dont get how Katie Holmes was chosen to portray Jackie...On the other hand, Rachel Weisz is an excellent choice, she's so classy and elegant.

I just read about an auction that was held in 2003, arranged by Jackie's former personal secretary Mary Gallagher.

I thought some of the personal effects were curious to see. Things like lipsticks and hand lotions by Elizabeth Arden, cases of (Helena Rubinstein's Silk-Screen)face powder, nylon slips, nightgowns, bathing suits, shoes, "sparkly" hosiery etc...
This was the auction site with descriptions of the items: http://www.hantmans.com/pages/kennedy/kennedycat.html ...And this site has photos of the actual items:http://www.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/136/page1
