Critics were not mad about Mad Men's January Jones' appearance as a guest judge on Project Runway's season finale.
In fact, they felt that the actress, who plays the stylish, sixties-era Betty Draper on the hit show, failed to impress in all areas.
Jones who was on the panel with Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and supermodel Heidi Klum appeared shy and seemed to offer very little help, criticism or advice.
Maybe Jones was just in character for Mad Men. Like Betty, she simply smiled a lot and agreed with Kors, while sometimes being caught on camera looking somewhat out of her element.
A TV Guide columnist compared Jones' ineptitude as a judge to her poor judgement in wearing her infamous bright blue gown, hoop-skirted gown to the Emmys, calling it a "cone-bra-and-peekabo-Scarlett O'Hara-skirt monstrosity."
The Wall Street journal, again referring to Emmy night, described her as an actress who could only be a 'footnote' for wearing that dress.
On the show, Jones did ask a designer contestant if his model's hair was from Far and Away, a reference to the 90s Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman movie.
She also said she liked a purple houndtooth skirt but didn't agree with a sportswear ensemble.
The actress also commented on a shrug designed by a contestant, calling it her favorite, while Klum, commenting on the same outfit, called it a 'dirty dishrag.'
Jones' real life style seems to be very far from her Grace Kellyish, Park-Avenue pearls dressed Betty Draper, who wouldn't be caught crying at her kitchen table without looking chic.
The actress is often seen in casual shirts and dungarees walking around her LA neighbourhood.
'We were asked to not work out so much, to have a softness, as would fit the sixties,' she once said of her slim but less-muscular figure.
She also said that she stays away from vintage clothing as much as possible when not on the show.
For her appearance on Project Runway, Jones stuck to a safer style while judging, wearing a black dress with Peter Pan-style collar, pink lipstick and ... a smile.
