http://www.geocities.com/myglovestoryJean Shrimpton met photographer David Bailey on a shoot for a cornflakes advertisement. His friend told him she was too posh for him, but Bailey thought 'we'll see about that!' The couple had a relationship for four years.

In 1965 she arrived for the Melbourne Cup in Australia and shocked everybody by wearing a plain white shift dress which ended at least 10 cm above her knees. To make things worse she wore no hat, stockings or gloves. This was very controversial at the time, but Jean was blissfully unaware of the riot she caused.

" She had a unique blend of classic beauty with distinctive features, though she herself thought she suffered from a fat face, a weak left profile, small eyes, big feet and bags under her eyes -- "if you take off the makeup, I’m ugly," she once said. "

Yes, there was a Supermodel special on E!, I believe, and she was interviewed at the Bed and Breakfast that she and her husband own in the English countryside... She looks older, no doubt, but this is 40 years ago she was big so we've all changed a bit (!) She still looks fine, however! I'll hunt down a couple of pics, I think I may have them somewhere...;)

Has anyone read her book? I have a copy and it was fun to read, nice pics too, but not great quality..:(

merged. you are of course right that she is an icon of the past but since we have an extra section devoted to models, all models stay here (same goes for musicians in art of noise, please):flower:

also: please credit your pictures, miss artemis.
