Jennifer Lawrence

It's neck and neck between her and Lupita. Both are completely different roles - a comedy and a dramatic performance. I loved both, and Jen is HILARIOUS in American Hustle, but Lupita flawed me also. I feel bad, because if Jennifer does win, there will be so much hate towards her. A bit like the Hatha-hate last year.

Yeah, I do genuinely really like Jen but I hope she doesn't win this year. She was good, but I personally thought Lupita was incredibly moving and I think it would be much more beneficial to her career if she won. Jen is pretty much on top of the world right now and if she wins again I think the backlash will be huge. I'm excited to see what she wears though, I hope it's much better than the GGs dress!

Exactly!

What is Hatha-hate?

Last year people reacted negatively to Anne Hathaway, with all her awards speeches seeming too fake-surprised and scripted, plus weird accents in interviews etc...coining the phrase Hatha-hate :flower:

her role was nowhere near GG win, and i would be shocked if she wins the oscar. Im a huge fan of her and I loved her in AH but its not oscar winning potential

I've only seen clips of the movie but her performance didn't seem that mind blowing, she seems out-acted by any actor present. Why was there no Katniss nomination? I don't care if the board don't like the film, they should reward a great performance whenever it comes up.

I think the SAGs will reveal if she's winning or not. I hope she doesn't win and I really don't think she wants to win either. She's not campaigning at all, in fact the only actors who are campaigning less than her are Cate and Leo.

^Cate Blanchett is not campaigning? she never tried so hard!

Anyway, I don't think she deserves to win. She does give a good performance, but Lupita was just outstanding! she deserves to win!

Cate seems to be so blasé and charmless about the whole thing but in the best way. She's been in the public eye this week but apart from that she's been in Australia working with the theatre company. But I suppose you have the luxury of not having to campaign hard when you produce one of the greatest performances seen in years.

IMO
I´ve seen AH and 12 Years a Slave, though Jen´s performance was great I still like Lupita´s better. Even though the parts were totally different, both had a vulnerability that Lupita pulled off better.
I think her performance in SLP was deserving of any award but not this one, overall I think Russell is overrated so I fear that she´ll win...

^ I think (hope) Lupita will take it. I'm not even much of a Lupita fan, but her performance in 12 Years should be recognised and tbh Jen winning for AH would be such a disservice to her career. I think her and her team are at least somewhat aware of this, she's definitely not campaigning as far as I can tell, for the film maybe, but not for this oscar nomination.

Also, here's hoping for a better dress than the Golden Globes...

Oh yeah I get it now.
She was so annoying! Haha

I was wondering that if she wins Oscar this year,is there anyone else who have won Oscar award two years in a row?

If she wins over Lupita I will riot!
Also, am I the only one who thinks she needs to get out of her Dior contract? Some of my favourite looks by her were BEFORE she signed with them. After the Golden Globes mess, I really hope they have something special lined up for the Oscars.

I think she is a good actress but her SLP performance was not worthy of an Oscar and neither is this American Hustle performance. I understand when Hollywood loves something they go overboard but if she wins, it will be a straight up travesty.

Now on topic, she needs to get rid of Dior right away. Or just do perfume ads for them. I really cannot think of another designing company she would be well suited for. She doesn't seem into fashion at all.

I can only think of Tom Hanks! He won in 1994 and 1995.

A moment of silence for looks like this (even though this was a Dior-period dress):

Also this gold dress:

I also loved her hair color in the 2nd gold dress. I believe that was for the Hunger Games premiere no?

Luise Rainer won back to back Best Actress in 1936/37 and Kathryn Hepburn won back to back Best Actress in 1967/68 (her 2nd/3rd out of 4 wins - current holder of most wins).

No one has ever won back to back Best Supporting Actress Oscars nor has someone winning back to back Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress so if Jen does win then she will be the first to do that.

Also Rachel Zoe post this pic on her instagram -

These gowns look interesting. I hope we get something a bit different for Jen at the SAGs. Would a break from Dior be too much to ask for.

The first one (gold?) looks promising. Details are beautiful. AND it doesn't look like Dior!

:ninja::ninja: I agree. The last great award worthy performance I saw her deliver was in Winter's Bone. She was just playing a cliché in American Hustle, and yes she had some good and funny moments, but it didn't feel like I was watching this great performance all the way through... it felt like I was watching Jennifer Lawrence, doing a funny caricature of a rich bored housewife cliché. Meh

I haven't seen all the other performances nominated so maybe compared to those hers is best, I can't judge... but otherwise I agree with you.

Jennifer's SAG look actually suits her. It's actually reminding me slightly of Catherine Zeta-Jones red Versace at one of the 1990s Oscar. It has classic beading while still being very modern, sexy style.

Jennifer mentioned in the E! interview her Oscar gown might be a vintage Dior, but she's not 100% sure.

I hate when she does that !!
Is it really that hard to know what you're wearing. I just saw her and the dress looked very recent to me.
