Joan Smalls

Karma for you LeChapeau, Thank you for your invaluable information!!! :flower:

Aww Thanks mate!

Joan is obviously an icon already so I guess we just have to wait and see what she has in store for us. Just remember that she got to where she is without all these magazine covers. She deserves them, but whatever. Her bank account isn't suffering without it.

I disagree with Joan going the route of hosting TV shows. No model who has gone that route had lasting success, save for Tyra and Heidi, both of whom were immensely popular around the world already, so they could have gotten away with that. Naomi is doing it now, but she's Naomi and can really get away with anything.

Joan needs BUSINESS VENTURES! She needs to become an incredibly successful business woman which she can use as leverage for covers, endorsements etc. Gisele, Miranda Kerr, Heidi, Cindy etc are all doing it. She's going to have much more control over her career that way. Not to mention, these tv shows gets canceled regularly, whereas a well managed business will last.

If however she does become an actress in a very successful film franchise, that would be fantastic, but as it stands, going in the direction of business mogul would be far easier.... (Though Lee Daniel seem to be a fan of hers, so maybe a huge film opportunity isn't such a wild card..)

PS Anyone else thinks that it's only a matter of time before she jumps ship to NEXT? I wonder who her agent/manager is now that Kyle Hagler isn't at IMG anymore...

I agree with you wholeheartedly, that Joan is already an Icon!

But... this is a very serious issue!
It's just not about those Major coveted Vogue Covers, but about the PRINCIPLE of it all! Some of these Fashion Editors are treating ethnic and all women of colour like second class citizens, especially Joan the #1 model in the WORLD!! That's just WRONG and unacceptable. Period!!

My Puerto Rican princess should be treated with respect and dignity and not past over or ignored for those Major Vogue covers, like some kind of nobody, just because she's an ethnic model of Mixed-race!!!
Joan has been the number #1 model in the world since 2012, for god sakes!!!! Those Covers are long overdue!

If we ignore and let these kinds of racist acts continue, what does it say to the rest of the fashion community?
That it's ok to ignore and /or treat ethnic women of colour like disposable second class citizens who they or force tolerate??
Is that it?

It is not ok now, nor should it ever be ok in the future to have these racist and xenophobic Leaders running the fashion community!!

These perpetrators need to be called OUT for their heinous actions!! They need to know that what they're doing is wrong!!!!! They should be embarrassed of themselves!

They need to be shamed out of being racist by us, and the rest of the fashion community who are opposed by these racist acts!! We don't have to people of colour to recognize what's going on!

We live in Global economy and these Fashion Editors need to realize that, and get a grip!!!

In the Past the number #1 models, like Lara, who just happen to be white, never had to go through all this bull***** and neither should Joan!! She deserves those covers out of sheer respect!! She has definitely earned them!!! :furious:

I agree!!

I wonder who her agent/manager is now that Kyle Hagler isn't at IMG anymore...

I don't know... maybe, Jen Ramey at IMG is managing her now?

PS Anyone else thinks that it's only a matter of time before she jumps ship to NEXT?

I think so... eventually. But, ONLY If the caliber of her work starts to slip, then yes. For Sure!

Imagine a year where she's not booking her usual runway shows or editorials. Is only able to book B-C List campaigns like Free people, Coach or Juicy Couture for example... instead of her usual Blue-chip campaigns like Versace, Chanel, Gucci or Fendi, ect...
and Can't even book the Cover of Vogue Timbuktu.

Then I'll assume there might be a major problem and she'll jump-ship! ASAP!
