Julian Klausner - Designer, Creative Director of Dries Van Noten

He was the leader in the studio for the SS 2025 show?
Good choice I think.
Dries is still involved in the company so it’s good to have someone who is not too much of personality to continue the legacy.

I really did not expected a known designer to come from outside.

I’m digging this no drama, no nonsense, and logical transition. I wonder if the SS 25 “studio” collection was his final audition necessary to convince the key stakeholders. Quite curious to see what he will bring to menswear.

That little clip in xone's post is kind of a green flag and a stark contrast from the bs and lack of humility of the likes of Demna ('I heard there was a random school in Antwerp and I got in but like I had no idea who the f Dries was').. this guy is just calmly giving credit to one of the unsung heroes of independent design in the early 00s (Charles Anastase) and has no problem talking about his eagerness as a teenage boy to get direction so he could work in fashion.

If he was behind S/S 2025, call me.. not a fan 🌚, but he seems like a nice, well-trained designer and I hope he does well..

Seeing that he was previously the head of womenswear, I can safely assume that he was probably pre-selected by Dries and that the SS25 collection was an audition for the suits.

If SS25 is any indication, I can imagine that Klausner's vision will be considerably more decontracted and urban than Dries', which got considerably more dressy during the 00s.

It's interesting that they have chosen a La Cambre alumni for this position, given Dries' pivotal role in cementing Antwerp's role as a fashion hub and the academy as one of the world's most respected fashion school. If Blazy does get appointed to Chanel, La Cambre will have an impressive roster of active CD's, while those coming from Antwerp seem to be going downill (Vanhee, Simons, Demna)... Maybe the academy's star is waning?

I think the previous generation which was successful, was guided by Linda loppa as head of the school. She was instrumental for the schools succes and tight framework. Comparable to the late Louise Wilson of csm.

A head of a department at an art academy is really instrumental to the success of school. They curate teachers, use their industry network to get there students in the right places, maintain a certain level that fits their eye, drill their knowledge etc. The current head of Antwerp which I still think is Walter is also good, but focused more on an individual expression. The new one at csm is too busy with sustainability I think.

He was replaced by Brandon Wen in September 2022. That said, we haven't really gotten any major names from Antwerp since Demna. Most of the recent Belgian-taught names came from La Cambre (Vaccarello, Dossena, Di Felice, Blazy, Serre). I imagine that it helps that lots of these designers speak French, since the school is in Bruxelles.
