It was rumored a few weeks ago.Strange i thought his successor was already named long time ago
I think the previous generation which was successful, was guided by Linda loppa as head of the school. She was instrumental for the schools succes and tight framework. Comparable to the late Louise Wilson of csm. It's interesting that they have chosen a La Cambre alumni for this position, given Dries' pivotal role in cementing Antwerp's role as a fashion hub and the academy as one of the world's most respected fashion school. If Blazy does get appointed to Chanel, La Cambre will have an impressive roster of active CD's, while those coming from Antwerp seem to be going downill (Vanhee, Simons, Demna)... Maybe the academy's star is waning?
He was replaced by Brandon Wen in September 2022. That said, we haven't really gotten any major names from Antwerp since Demna. Most of the recent Belgian-taught names came from La Cambre (Vaccarello, Dossena, Di Felice, Blazy, Serre). I imagine that it helps that lots of these designers speak French, since the school is in Bruxelles.I think the previous generation which was successful, was guided by Linda loppa as head of the school. A head of a department at an art academy is really instrumental to the success of school. They curate teachers, use their industry network to get there students in the right places, maintain a certain level that fits their eye, drill their knowledge etc. The current head of Antwerp which I still think is Walter is also good, but focused more on an individual expression. The new one at csm is too busy with sustainability I think.
