The effects of the economy on New York Fashion Week have been well documented, but now it seems Milan has also fallen victim to some of the current downturn’s perils.
On the heels of Milan Fashion Week, Roberto Cavalli has announced that his diffusion line – Just Cavalli – will not be presented as scheduled on Thursday, February 26th.
The main reason for the pull-out is tied to the line’s licensee, Ittierre, filing for bankruptcy protection after running out of cash in early February. Roberto Cavalli noted that he made the decision to forgo a show in order to protect the Just Cavalli image and its clients. Cavalli added that the difficult Ittierre situation leaves him with no guarantee and no certainty that his young line will be as avant-garde as it has always been.
Fans of Just Cavalli’s bold prints need not worry, however. Despite the runway presentation’s cancellation Ittierre will produce and distribute the Fall/Winter 2009 Just Cavalli line.
