^I don't want to wear it eventhough I think it is cute. It is political, eventhough my oppinion is not at all the one shared here above.

i agree.

i think its a bit interesting that people are wearing it without taking politics into account. of course, if you are unaware of it, i guess thats not a problem.

I hope im not being political, if i am mods you can delete this. I feel the same way about che guevara shirts.

This scarf is such a piece of basic "alternative" dressing amongst the Western countries...IMHO it looks stupid. All the "different" teenagers are wearing it...I'm amazed H&M hasn't done a version of it yet.

I kinda feel this thing about them 'cause they remind me of being in Dubai (where men of course wear them as part of their daily wear, not a style statement). I don't think I could wear one though.

it's weird seeing all these teens in the U.S, Europe wearing it as a "trend".. i live in the Middle East and almost every man here wears the shemagh so i would never wear it as ascarf or anything.. but i think it looks cute on some people..

This trend cracks me up….my dad has had a kahfiyah for as long as I can remember …I'm just waiting for the djellabea to take the trendsters by storm!! Could you imagine???

LOL, i think it'll be soo trendy just give it two more years, some stylish celeb will wear it first and then ppl will rave about it.. just look at that jingly scarf Shakira wore around her waist in whever wherever era, even mid-eastern ppl themsleves who invinted it wanted it more

u see the the funny thing is.. i live in a mid-eastern country and it's more of a traditional thing here, ppl never wear them as a political statment or any of that, but girls lately seemed to be wearing them too, u know not as a scarf but they make bags, flats, tops.. u name it from that fabric.. and to tell u the truth it doesnt look bad at all..
so it is litrally a "trend" all around the world, even the places people already wear them in since like the begging of time.

That's me (on the left of course ) twelve years ago, by the way. Back then in the middle 90s the Kahfiyah defintely WAS a political statement. Today I'm not so sure about that. But I still love the way it looks and since my opinion about the middle eastern politics haven't changed that much - esp. not these days! - I am thinking about wearing one again!
It's sad to hear that so many people wear it without knowing what it means. I hope Freja does!!!??? Fashion is so much more than just wearing something, because everyone else does - I'm sure I don't need to tell you

The red-and-white is often associated with Jordan and socialism, the plain white is worn by the Saudi's, the plain green is associated with Islamism. The red is also often worn by civilian supportes of Hamas and some militant groups.

THIS (koufiyyah) is a traditional dress that goes waay back- with NO political associations. The red and white is worn all over the middle east-including saudi, the white is also worn all over- its just a diff fabric- black/white is more worn in the north part of the middle east, NEVER heard of green, and for SURE it has NOTHING to do with "islamism"-, socialism or any militant groups. ITS JUST A TRADITIONAL ARABIC HEAD DRESS. JUST LIKE SCOTTISH KILTS. Case closed.
