Khaite S/S 2023 New York | the Fashion Spot

Khaite S/S 2023 New York

There is absolutely nothing special about these clothes. High school students could of thought this up. Amateurish.

For what I’ve seen coming out of NYC so far, this isn’t so bad. There’s something Vauthier-esque about it. A few looks I like are looks 2, 9, 10, 41, and 42.

I never realized it was an American brand. Tbh, I never realized they had several runway shows…
This is one of those brands I’m familiar with thanks to NAP.

I like the collection. It’s very straight forward. It’s full of references but it’s not pretentious.

The styling is a bit all over the place. They needs Suzanne Koller. It’s very her..
The two outfits with the red skirts are hideous but overall it’s a nice collection.

They really need a good stylist to work closely with them to make this less confusing. Someone that openly says "So the point of this is?" when making the collections (Katy England did that a lot with McQueen).

I strangely like the red and want more of it, but not paired with those boob flattening tops.

Vanessa Traina is not made for this.
The red skirts on their own can be interesting but indeed those tops made the whole thing look hideous.

They don’t have « designers » pretention so, I think the outfits should be as clear, as effective as possible. Too much fake styling effects.
The stirrup pants makes the legs looks heavier…It’s a lot of things despite some good pieces and looks. The disco shirt with the ballon black skirt (very Helmut Lang) looks great and fresh.

It's been very consistent that their styling is all over the place. The brand should be more clean and classic. The styles that have done well commercially err toward simple (cashmere bra, jeans, that one square neckline dress) but then I look at the shows or ecomm and it's just a lot of... stuff. Some of the designs are very poorly constructed or quite frankly look unflattering on the wearer. It is confusing to understand who their customer is and where she is wearing this.

My other point of contention with this brand is the prices. They are truly insane. Who is paying $2,800 for a basic cardigan from Khaite?
The Johannes Cardigan in Neutral

I think this season was a one-off for her and her team. I mean, the fit of these clothes is terrible, and I found she tried a little to hard to be “experimental”. I still find her to be very talented and one of the only designer’s I look forward to seeing during NYFW. Here is to hoping next season will be better.

A tad repetitive as is usual with khaite. Also, how do you pronounce Khaite? like Kate or Kháïteh??

I don’t hate it, it’s rather forgettable though. The paper-bag waist skirts are awful but other than that you could actually wear this and not look like a freak…
