Alber Elbaz described his pre-fall collection for Lanvin as “a mix of wildness and classics.” The clothes featured a variety of looks with distinctive personalities, from an animal-print wool jacquard sweatshirt to romantic red-carpet swooners. “It’s not about a concept, it’s about women; it’s about their mood, it’s about individuality,” added Elbaz. “It’s almost like everything women would want to have this season.” The designer layered up textures and fabrics with prints and jacquards, leathers and furs and a mix of shapes and cuts.

A pale gray wool and Neoprene coat with contrast collars looked clean and modern, while a tunic-style dress in black and ivory reversible crepe worked an ethnic-meets-Seventies vibe with decorative jet crystals and wooden beads. The latter was one of several pieces accented with artisanal seams and darts to graphic effect. Tailoring was clean with no unnecessary frills and borrowed from traditional men’s cuts and constructions, again with exposed innards such as darts and shoulder detail.

Key footwear included sharp-toed lace-up platform boots and a leopard-print boot with a studded clog heel. The jewelry was inspired by lost ancient cities such as Kalahari and Volubilis, featuring bold metal links, printed ponyskin and chunky crystals.

Looks very confused and thrown-together in the worst way possible. The jewellery is interesting, but the rest looks very fashion-victim to me. And the footwear is atrocious! Leopard-print-studded-clog-heel; possibly the ugliest shoe ever created!

apart from the red dress and the last look.. but i have been waiting for this so let's see

the first two looks are atrocious, what's going on here? the red dress is okay but the rest is... let's hope the full collection will be more put together

The last shot with the coat and suit is beautiful.

The red dress is lovely. The rest, however, isn't looking very appealing so far. Again.

Uhhhh look 2 is divine, he's using leopard print in the correct way. Though the boots are questionable.

I find this too helter skelter

any new pictures? it seems like an interesting collection (those leopard print boots aside...)

I don't even... what is this?

I only like the last look.

It looks very Lanvin to me, Alber Elbaz's Lanvin. He always mixes various styles and there are endless heaps of accessories. No two looks are the same like the first outfit in his show is totally unrelated to the last one. Here, I like the red dress and the last coat and suit.

I was kind of disappointed with the first two looks, but I quite like the rest so far.

NEW YORK
By Nicole Phelps

Alluding to the abundance of leopard print in his pre-fall collection for Lanvin, Alber Elbaz said, "Designers used to go to the jungle for inspiration, now we don't have time to go because we're living in one." He won't get any arguments on the jungle front from editors and retailers today—not with over a dozen pre-fall shows and appointments on the calendar here in New York.

As for the animal print, if it was ever on fashion's endangered-species list, it's certainly not anymore. In fact, it's become so common, it's practically a neutral. Elbaz made it fresh by fearlessly pairing a printed sweatshirt with tapered pants in a clashing pattern, and accessorizing both with a clutch and boots in yet another version of the print, or, somewhat less successfully, by embroidering beaded daisies on printed backgrounds. As ever, there was scads of costume jewelry, while the news in accessories was floppy chapeaux in pony hair.

He answered the baroque portions of the collection with classic, not quite minimal tailoring and outerwear that felt in keeping with the precision of his most recent runway show. In this group, a belted navy coat with black satin revers was a keeper, as was a black leather blouson top worn over a turtleneck and a short pencil skirt.

A strapless red cocktail dress with exposed seams was the collection's one shot of color, but the real winner for after dark was an ankle-length long-sleeve dress in black-and-white animal print that looked as cool and easy to wear as a T-shirt.

I could have done without the cutesy flower appliques, save 'em for Miu Miu, Valentino etc., but thankfully this collection is fantastic and chic. The tri-color coat is my favorite: http://postimage.org/image/cbxwg409t/

and I can't wait to get a better look at this clutch:

Nice use of animal prints and skins.

And I know we love to complain about lookbook photography, but this half-head zoom is working for me and displays the clothes beautifully.
