Review from Style.com:

NEW YORK, January 17, 2008 – Alber Elbaz gave the ladies what they want with his sophisticated pre-fall collection, which found the designer taking some of his favorite motifs—Grecian draping, a thirties sleeve, surface decoration—and pushing them just a little bit further. Raw-edged dresses, for instance, looked like simple slips from the front but came with ruffled backs. A satin-lined fur coat had a slouchy dishabille fit, and an exposed zipper fronted a don't-mess-with-me city coat. The muted palette, mainly black and gray (with shots of navy, teal, and forest green), let the eye linger on the shapes—both sculpted and draped.

Beautiful. Truly a wearable collection - I can't imagine anyone looking bad in these outfits. Its rare to look at a fashion show and think that almost everyone can get away with the clothes but I look at these shapes and they seem flattering and timeless. I love this collection - the only thing I could possibly ask for is a bit more color but other than that I can't find much to dislike about it.

I feel like these are the kind of clothes that you could buy, save and give to your granddaughters. You can't go wrong with a solid coat and a well cut little black dress.

very beautiful.

even thought it is what i expect from lanvin, it is still a very nice collection.

his stuff does translate oddly irl though. is it flattering on regular women?

Now THIS is the Lanvin I know and love!! It is very reminiscent of his 2004 collections (some of my all-time favorites!). This is exactly what Alber does best and 'if it ain't broke don't fix it!'

I concur, Luxx.

this is as good as a dream of perfection's got to be.. I could fantasise on just about every piece in the collection.. it's so quintessentially Lanvin and the most exciting interpretation of what's classic. I'm in love. :crush:

I guess that's why I am getting tired of Lanvin, it's very nice clothes, very tastefully musty, classic, can't go wrong expensive clothes, but the same slightly "period" (albeit Modernist) pieces, a bit Rochas, a bit Jean Muir, a dash of YSL, dresses you would see on Keira Knightley or Natalie Portman, it's a formula for commercial success.
