Laser Hair Removal

i'm getting laser hair removal on my bikini line..are you supposed to wear underwear during the procedure, or no?

i wore underwear when i got mine done and just pulled it aside for areas that were further in...
it probably depends how much of your bikini area you want lasered..
if you're going for more of a brazilian then you might not wear underwear..
i guess it all depends..

are you supposed to shave your bikini line before you get the laser treatments?....they don't perform laser directly onto the hair, right?..

yeah, they ask you to shave. another embarassing question but i really dont know...what "shape" are you supposed to get and and what size? it seems like a strip would be most convenient but i wonder if guys would find that..odd/lacking. eh?

I had laser done on my face about 10 years ago and it was disastrous, a total failure, waste of money, left me full of scars, etc.

HOWEVER, I decided to give it a second try, seeing as how technology as advanced and all, and it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Not only has my hair gone to minimal amounts, but my skin is beautiful as a result of that. I'm completely addicted to it now, I'm going to have my legs done, and probably more after that. I feel like kissing my dermatologist every time I see her.

i think that's all about personal preference..
do whatever you think is best..

who cares what guys think anyway? they'll just be happy to have access!:ninja:

I will be getting my forearms lasered (dark hair, fair skin - it's just something that bothers me more than anything..) - I usually bleach the hair a little bit to make it lighter and know that laser is meant to pick up on pigment so I was wondering if this will be a problem? Is the hair shaved before treatment or does it have to be a certain length? I am hoping it will be ok because the colour of the hair just at & under the skin is obv would still be dark. (But i also have heard no fake tanning, no bleaching before treatment.. so I am confused!).

haha, i've been a member for ages but this is my first post - love the way it's about how hairy I am :P

oh I didn't even realise I had one of those little pictures already by my name! wonder when I did that..

^^they would shave the hair before lasering--but you should probably stop bleaching either way for better results..
you basically want your skin to be as light as possible and hair as dark as possible..

they shave the hair because otherwise the laser will burn it and it will smell like burning/singed hair :smile:yuk:smile:

Oh sounds lovely! I also want to get hair above my lip done - problem is I have to see people . It's becoming quite a dilemma - I am usually plucked and waxed and self-tanned. What with the hair and the paleness I don't know what to do with myself (If i am being honest I am avoiding people now)! Which makes me hate myself for being a slave to patriarchy when I should reallly know better. Stupid patch test means I have to wait even longer. I suppose I could shave my face but just the thought of it.. I might use that wash off fake tan and just walk really fast when around people.

Thanks for the info there  - I'm going to stop the bleaching in any case now. As for the hiding, I don't know! Do people ever shave and then just say, 'point the laser here please' ?

yes, start shaving. that's what I did for my face treatment. from the day I had my first consultation I did nothing else but shave my face. I know, it feels weird to do it as a woman, but it was fine. my dermatologist has never needed actual above the skin surface hair growth to know where the hair is, that's what the big magnifier thing is for.

I'm glad you said that - about the magnifier and so on. That's exactly what I'll do. I'll get over the weirdness part, it's better than hiding away & tying myself up in knots! Thanks for thatB)

Any recommendations for laser removal in the Los Angeles area? It seems like everyone here does it but I need a good reputable place

I had the procedure done, my first session on my upper lips...and its amazing. after a few days of scubbing and redness, the hair is all gone now its been a week and no hair. Imagine it was just my first session i still have 3 more to go. Now i am getting other areas of my face done as well. And i always had dark coarse hair which is ideal for this type of procedure, because it makes it easier for the laser light to target the hair. So i definately recommend it.

What's a good in between treatment to manage facial hair? I'll be getting laser in about a year and a half when I finish school and can pay for it  I currently pluck but it's leaving me with bumps :yuk: I use retin A so I was told that I can't wax. Is that true?

STOP PLUCKING NOW. Years of plucking my face left me with horrible scars, the laser treatment has improved it dramatically but it will never be the same.

Don't know the answer to your question but waxing, threading, dyeing the hair blonde if you don't have that much, and even shaving is better than plucking.

OK, I needed that. It's become an addiction now  I am going to try and get a wax treatment this weekend.

^^my laser lady said that waxing/plucking can actually stimulate hair growth in the neighboring hair shafts so it could actually increase the amount of hair you've got..

definitely don't pluck any more..
i wouldn't recommend waxing..
i think your best bets are either shaving or trimming the hair..
or like mundo said, bleach if it will work with your skin tone, hair length etc..

you could ask your dermatologist what he/she recommends for facial hair..
especially since you're using retin-a..
that stuff makes your skin so sensitive..

Shaving, huh? I have to do some more research about it to see if it's better than waxing.

^^shaving is much better for your skin as well..
far less ingrowns..
no allergies to waxes..
no irritation or redness..
doesn't tear the top layer of skin away like waxing does..
which also removes sort of essential oils from your skin..

did you have to buy a laser package, chrissym?

no i didn't buy a package...
i don't know that the place i got it done even offers one :ermm:

i just paid each time i went in...
i think she did the last treatment for free if i remember correctly..
that's probably a rare thing though..
i spent a ton of money there getting electrolysis done as well though...

i go to a sort of hole-in-the-wall place in Milford, MA..
just a one woman operation..
