Layering Fishnet Stockings

As part of my last minute scramble to throw together an outfit for Christmas eve I discovered a pair of red fishnet stockings lurking in the back of a drawer. I suppose they aren't technical fishnets as they have a more lace-type pattern to them but you get the idea. Unfortunately wearing the stockings alone (of course with a skirt!) seems a bit trashy, not right for a family function, so I slipped a pair of very dark grey stockings on underneath. I think it looks cute and I vaugley remember seeing a pair of "prelayered" stockings similar to these by Nine-West. Just wondering if anyone else has seen or done something similar to this or if I'm way off in fashion left field .

I wore stockings under fishnets a few years back, it worked wonderfully (especially since I'd wear bright colored fishnets against darker shade stockings, usually red matched with black) and added a bit of color to my outfit.
I'm not sure it would fit my personal style today, but it's totally doable.
