London College of Fashion

I've heard that the PR course at LCC is miles better!

I know there's a lot of complaints about the BA programs, but does anyone have any thoughts on the quality of the MA programs? Either Fashion Marketing or History & Culture of Fashion.

Wow, are all programs in LCF this bad? I was thinking of going for one of their short courses on Merchandising.

I was serious about going there too, but after reading so many bad things about it I think I'll do some short courses at CSM!

Is fashion PR just as bad? LCC has regular PR, maybe it's a wiser choice to put that course as my nr.1.

fashion PR in LCF is in the same BA as journalism, which is Fashion Promotion (split into PR, Broadcast and Journo) so you'll be equally ignored

LCF in general is a joke but even for you guys saying you're going to do short courses in CSM instead, don't! they're all a part of the UAL and share the same teaching methods and lack of budget. it'll be rubbish anywhere. at least for a short course you'll only have to handle it for 2-3 months and your 3 year degree won't rely on it

agreed, with all the cuts the tutors just don't care anymore. our teaching hours were cut an hour and a half each day this january, and i'm still paying the same fees as i was the first term. so. pissed. off. as soon as 3 o clock rolls round the tutors leave the classrooms faster than the students - my tutor won't stay even a minute extra to answer questions or have a chat with you. can't wait for my course to end!

Are you all just talking about the shourt courses or about the BA and MA programms?

I have an interview on the 21st for the Creative direction for Fashion course. I went there not long ago for an interview for the Journalism course but was declined. LCF is my only other choice as others have declined me or have had their course cancelled due to cuts.

So my main question is, can anyone give me some Pros/Cons about LCF in a list!?
I think my course is a new one, so I don't expect much help on the quality of the course but still, if anyone else has applied to something similar (styling, art direction etc) let me know!

I have a phone interview this week for a MA program but this thread has made me really wary about the school. I would very much like to go but I don't want it to be a total waste of money if I'm accepted. Unfortunately, outside of this forum, I haven't been able to find a lot of opinions/reviews of the programs. Is anyone at LCF who is actually enjoying their program?

to be honest, finding a tutor who actually gives a damn at lcf is pretty rare! i'm on foundation at the moment, absolute waste of 6 months. we get taught nothing. no skills, just a bit of 'guidance'. it's pathetic.

Well, I can't disagree more.
All of our tutors are amazing, and have given us great contacts within the industry. When the class is finished all of them stay behind in case you have any questions, they also reply to e-mails very quickly.
At the end of the term we have 2-3 tutorials before handing in, to help you get the best grade possible.

I am on the Buying and Merchandising course.

I think LCF is generally an experience in which you can only make the judgement yourself. Before I studied at LCF I had read some bad stories and part of me was slightly wary however at the same time, I was won over by the contacts and reputation of UAL and believed it could somehow benefit me. There is no point in making your own decision based on other's experiences.

For me, I have really enjoyed my time at LCF for my foundation year. Occasionally tutors aren't around however they have always had an interest and focus on our development. The way in which LCF teach you is very independent, which some people aren't so fond of. You get given a brief, basic themes to research and from that you take it in your own approach. This is what I am so fond of with LCF, because regardless of having a class of 50 with the same brief, you will always get a different outcome and they appreciate this. LCF has really helped me to mature in terms of my work and concept building so don't always listen to the negative aspects of LCF, because you could gain a lot from studying there too

I have an interview for MA Fashion Journalism next week, any tips? what will they ask?

I can't say specifically for journalism but the questions for my MA History and Culture of Fashion interview were pretty straightforward. The director asked things like why I chose that program, why I wanted to study it, what my strengths were, what I'm most proud of, a few questions about inspiration, past academic work, and then some specific discussion pertaining to my thesis proposal. Then I had a chance to ask questions of him. The whole thing lasted about 20 minutes.

I did an essay exam March 11th for BA Fashion Journalism (US/International student) , does anyone know how long does it take afterward for them to interview me/ or send me a letter of acceptance?

I had the BA Womenswear interview yesterday and they told me it will take about 2 weeks

For those of you with upcoming interviews, the one question in my MA History and Culture of Fashion interview that caught me off guard (not because it's a hard question, but just because my mind seemed to empty the second he asked) was about what fashion book inspires me or has influenced my style. I have no idea whether you'll be asked that question, but it's probably good to have a few references ready just in case. I still answered fine, but I just couldn't remember any names off the top of my head because I was nervous. I can think of a hundred answers now, but I definitely had an awkward pause before answering at the time.

I have an interview for BA in Fashion Journalism the 26. Any tips?

Well, think about your inspirations and influences (everybody was asked questions about that) and RELAX, I was so incredibly stressed before my interview, but it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be

Also, I remember that there was a question about the most influential person in fashion right now and my dream job in the industry .
