ANIMAL PLANET: Wild animals are curious about fashion, too. Interested parties during Louis Vuitton’s latest advertising shoot included giraffes and lion cubs, who trailed models Karen Elson and Edie Campbell as they explored the arid landscapes of South Africa for photographer Peter Lindbergh.

The new “Spirit of Travel” spots, slated to break in an array of April magazines starting with Vanity Fair in the U.S., exalt the French brand’s travel heritage and reprise a tag line from historic Vuitton campaigns by Jean Larivière, who depicted products against landscapes steeped in serenity.

“It’s a mix of travel and the fashion world,” said Frédéric Winckler, Vuitton’s communications and events director, noting that Elson and Campbell donned looks from Vuitton’s resort and spring runway collections.

The fancy threads didn’t stop these daring women travelers from interacting with creatures. In one shot, Elson reaches out to offer a giraffe some leaves; in another, Campbell, a skilled horseback rider, sits astride a zebra.

Winckler noted that none of the photos were manipulated, meaning all of the animal interaction was real, including Campbell’s synchronized stroll with a cheetah.

The campaign was styled by Carine Roitfeld, and also spotlights Vuitton’s iconic monogram bags — Speedy, Keepall and Neverfull — along with two new styles, including a structured, ladylike one.

An online film is to launch in tandem with the print ads, Winckler noted.

Wow, this is so gorgeous. Loving those Travel campaigns by LV.

This campaign is gorgeous! Hope to see it in my magazines soon!

Thank god, they abandon Muse, but use edie, neither of them i want see, only elson is the best thing in the series campaign

It's like a continuation of their Vogue italia editorial from last year lol.

These African themed pieces have been done to death, so blasé about them now.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but Edie looks incredible here. The concept is kind of corny, it's been done a million times, but it's a nice campaign. Lindbergh is talented and he does great things when he wants.

Still impressed by how near those animals are to the models!

Lindbergh is turely a master in creating a movie vibe.

Absolutely stunning! Has a hint of Peter Beard which makes it that much better!

Thank you, Zorka, for posting!

Karen and Edie look brilliant here, Lindbergh really knows how to capture models at their very best, even the ones that I normally do not like, i.e Edie!

Such a beautiful campaign, I'm seriously loving this! Same opinion with other members: not a fan of Edie usually but she looks great here and Karen looks amazing as well.

This campaign is so timeless! One of best campaign I've seen in ages! Peter is a genius!
