China seems ready to get a heavy dose of capitalist luxury..
Only yesterday mr Prada targeted openly the China market at a fashion 'meeting' in Italy* today ..Paris bites back.

Comite Colbert, an association of 51 French luxury houses, last week presented plans to exhibit one-of-a-kind pieces created by its members in an exhibit this fall in China. Creations from Chanel, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton, among others, were shown to the press at the French ministry of foreign affairs in Paris. The exhibit is designed to promote French know-how in a market where luxury potential is growing rapidly. Among the noteworthy creations were an elaborate crystal candelabra by Saint-Louis, a Hermes saddle in the shape of a bird, and a coral, diamond-encrusted brooch by Dior jewelry designer Victoire de Castellane. The exhibit, to be arranged by Christian Ghion, is slated to run Oct. 25-Nov. 7 at Plaza 66 in Shanghai.

only pic i have is a recent one from Mr Prada.. wont excite you too much dear igni.. :D

this sounds so exciting....the European luxury brands are tackling the situation very well....beware though as China is known for counterfeit goods....however, I have noticed that the availability in Beijing and Shanghai has decreases substancially in the past two years....

prada is also talking about opening factories in china...

everyone has their eye on china right now...

thx lena..:flower:

intresting, I supos they are going to be the 'next japan', in terms of luxry/fashion consumerism.

yeah, theyre gonna want to buy into wester ideals of luxury... no ones likes to be "left behind"

china is the new up and coming coutry we did about it in geography and its the country which has gained the most wealth the fastest as of resently. Its is a boom, so people have money for designer luxuries, so lots of designers are setting up there.

it's kinda ironic that there was a article on this because i had a conversation with my father about how china is starting to take a big lead in the economy . . .

Yeah, China has a blossoming middle class which means a good deal more pockets to burn holes in. It's a good sign for a healthy and growing economy. It's a very exciting time to be Chinese right now.

I find it sad to see communism fail again, not really exiting to me....

Yeah, well... Communism is great in THEORY.

Strange tangent, this thread has nothing to do with communism.

actually it does becuase the reason luxury goods are becoming populare in China is becuase of the biger middle class and upper class wich comes as a result of capitalism, wich is the opposite of communism.

in a way it does, since China is still supposedly a communist country falling softly in the hands of luxury.
of course it all started by the west exploiting China's ability for supplying the 'western' market with cheap mass produced goods...

for me, it's like this:
'we buy from them, we make them rich and then.. we go over there to take 'our' money back by selling them what they never knew.. luxury' :D

somehow its the perfect 'business plan' no?

i'd really love to hear the ideas of any chinese members on this

exactly:D

China is definetly a booming market, as capitlism grows so does the spending of the population. Many of the people who live in the big cities such as Shanghai are making lots and lots of money, they are the ones buying the luxury goods. Even though people assume China is a poor coutnry, overall it is, but the amount of buying coming from the middle class is growing rapidly.
