Makeup counter pet peeves

We have a lady that comes in and puts on about 10 different lotions. She pulls up her pants legs and lotions her legs, she lotions under her shirt around her back, stomach and boobs.

She sprays about 5 different fragrances on and then leaves. Its so disgusting to watch.

We also have a lady that comes in and does her full face of makeup, puts on lotion, sprays fragrance and then does her hair --- all with our products. It's one thing to come in and try out stuff...but she knows where everything is, and always uses the same color and comes in about two times a week -- and NEVER buys anything.

cookoo birds!!

 I know it's not funny but I've seen that full body lotion routine too many times myself...

In the dept. store where I work, there is one lady who comes in several times a week to bathe from the tiny washbasin in the bathrooms and even though she floods the floor creating a safety risk for our other customers for some crazy reason no one can ask her to leave
Oh yeah, she never buys either...

ahahahahha!!! ok ill tell u a funny story, a woman customer came in to our makeup section one day and had a facial done by another cosmetic lady in one of the side rooms, and the cosmetic lady left her in the room so she could re touch her makeup, collect her things n then leave, but instead of the customer going out the normal door, she went through a special door that leads to the front of the display window at the front of the store lol. she was banging on the windows, looking around and standing next to the mannequin trying to get out for about 5 minutes untill some one noticed her in there!

LOL jjbunny, she doesn't get in the basin. She just runs it full blast (even though there's draught & water restrictions etc) and throws it over herself and everywhere.... it's like waterworld when she's done.

^ waterworld  omg  this is just crazy o.o cant she even find a proper shower?! wow

* when makeup artists use 'dirty' brushes, of course it going to effect the color!

* when they say "are you looking for anything else today, how come you dont wear mascara or blush?" lol i am wearing it but i just dont cake it on like they do so i must not be wearing it!

Some very funny stories! I've seen a lady in my local House of Fraser who comes in every week asking for free samples from literally every counter in the place. Thats all fine but she looks like she's barely seen a shower or a spot of make up in her life!

I get annoyed when an assistant tells me that I should try and look a little more glowing, as in, brown. I'm very very pale, i don't want to be brown!

u shud stick to being how you are. pale skin is beautiful!

^ i always have make up people put like soo much bronzer on me. it look okay in the store, but i always look olive-orange outside of the store...

They always tell me to go a shade darker in foundation, after many years I now say no. No more pumpkin face for me!

^ thats why i hate counters!

* they see that your Asian and automatically give you a super yellow Simpsons foundation. my normal skintone is super fair like straight up milk(momma bear says like a porcelain doll)...i have a bit of color left over from summer and im still the lightest neutral foundation i can find. i got lucky with finding a foundation that matches but i had to find it on my own and not rely on MKA at the counters.

The other day, i went to a clinique counter and the lady said i was a type III !!! Yikes!!!

Then went to a dif. shop and the lady there said i was a II but since my skin is sensitive, that i should stick to the mildest of toners during winter...

:p

ive only heard like maybe 2 or 3 people like the Clinique skincare line...but most people absolutely hate it. its way too harsh, in my opinion i dont think skincare needs to be so harsh! its skin! be gentle like *johnsons & johnsons babies* lol

I think that's actually rather sad.. I've worked in a homeless shelter before and (unless that particular lady is simly off her rocker) using a washbasin to wash.. wherever one could find one.. is a tactic used to keep oneself clean.

I get fed up w/ these SAs telling me I'm 'warm' and insist on me wearing bronze or gold or that sort of hue. I know my skintone and what looks best on me.

i texted my sister while i was at Ulta and she said they were and i quote "the Great Clips of the Hair Salons"

the girl helping me at Ulta acted like such a know-it-all but she FAILED when trying to match a concealer for me. she matched me with a Stila squeeze tube concealer in shade C then tried to sell me Smashbox foundation in Fair 01 both of which were incredibly orangey on me. she sat me with my back facing the window. dumb. so i turned around and was like thought wow thats horrible and turned back and its STILL HORRIBLE. i asked her why there was an orange patch on my lower cheek and i think she got offended but seriously. its legit though, im not trying to be mean or anything but trying to sell me orange makeup is wrong. and her excuse was this : the lighter shades of the testers for both the Stila and Smashbox makeups were stolen thats why she couldnt try them on me... okay GHETTRO! if there wasnt any then she shouldnt have put that sh*t on my face to begin with because she claimed to know the products so well then she would know its obviously too dark! yet she still went ahead and proceeded to waste my time.

after that i went around the store on my own and i think Urban Decay concealer pencil in CIA(lightest one)would have been a closer match. but it doesnt end there! they did not have a single UD concealer pencil that they could sell in ANY color, not because they were sold out but because the 'vendor' came by and took them all. so the wannabe makeup artist girl(she was talking to some customer about getting makeup artist licenses or something, good lord.) gave me Ulta's number so i could check call to check if it will be in stock later on...these items arent in particular high demand but they never seem to have anything in stock there.

Around christmas and other special occasions we have stalls set up with make up, beauty lotions etc and one girl said to me the other day "do you want a makeover" and i was like "what are you trying to imply?" lol she didnt have much to say to that and I think its rude just saying that to someone.. regardless of whether you think im ugly or not theres other ways around that lol

and i hate walking into David Jones and I see the girls looking at me and my friends like we shouldnt be in the "expensive" make up section.. How do they know I dont earn heaps of money? They just go on looks sometimes even when im with my stunner friend

I hate when they went to smoke and they don't wash their hands disgusting sick that actually happen to me in a MAC store..... :( + when they look at you like you are an alien simply because you are not carrying the latest (hot) bag or accessory of the moment that how they are here in Boca Raton .....

I dislike girls who work on make up counters yet are completely incompetant when it comes to serving others and find that the fact they're pretty makes amends for that. A lot of them have a very limited knowledge on the make up they're selling and then behave as though they're above the girls who they're serving which aggravates me no end.
Also girls who find your knowledge threatening, and insist on trying to sell you something that you not only don't want but could never wear because it'd look awful.
And those who are seemingly more interested in chatting about their boyfriends and then give you daggers when you try to help those in the queue they're so obviously neglecting.

I don't have a lot of time for a lot of make up girls.

Such a good thread, and I agree with you heaveninhereyes on people's knowledge at most counters, unless they might be a bit older, the young ones know ZIP. I want to work at a Neiman's counter at this new Neiman's that is opening (luxury dept. store in USA that owns Bergdorf's in NYC) but the competition is going to be so fierce and I want to work there badly...I'm just going to aggravate them all the time so they'll remember my name, because I as a guy love to give people CORRECT advice and honest info if I was to work at a counter or be a rep because there's so many people giving bad suggestions to women (and men) out there at Nordstrom, Saks, other Neiman's, Macy's, you name it...I know commission is the number one priority but I think that honesty and keeping clients remembering you as friendly and truthful instead of pushy and rude is way more important. :)
