I live outside of Chicago and I'm fifteen years old. 5'11, thin, toned, all those lovely qualities. I was curious as to the extend of the [male] modeling industry in and outside of Chicago, if I should move to New York, should I test the waters in Chicago first? Should I wait until my features fully develop and go to an open call when I'm 16/17/18? I want to work with Chosen Management to develop myself, and then (assuming it all works) move to New York and work with a top model agency.

Does an agency typically have specialists that can help you get more accustomed to the anxiety in starting off? Is anxiety a sign it's not for you? Or is it just a sign that you're not ignorant?

Sorry, kind of bombarding this message board with questions. Any answers would be appreciated.

If you have additional information, feel free to email me at: [email protected]

Thanks.

Depending on what your look is, I would get some head shots taken in Chicago, and then perhaps over spring break or something take a trip to New York, and visit a bunch of agencies (either walk-in or schedule an appointment). You might be a little young at 15, and they will certainly encourage you to come back in a year or two.

When you walk into some of the top agencies, the less you know (or the more you pretend not to know what's going on), the more the agencies will like you. TRUST ME ON THIS. They are always looking for the freshest face, newest look, etc. Agencies always are hoping that they might be the ones to discover the next big thing. If you walk in over confident, pretending like you know the industry and so forth, they will not like that as much.

Also, for the most part, they don't really like overbearing model-parents if you get my drift, so its better to just let them talk, take a look at you, and you never know what may happen.

Agencies I would check out, again, depending on your look, are DNA, Ford, possibly Q, maybe IMG, although I don't know what their men's board is like. Also, it would be helpful to know someone that has a contact at these agencies (perhaps a family friend or a friend) so your not completely "off the street."

Good luck, and if you need a manager my commission is 6%.

:ninja:

remember its not just being tall and skinny you have to have a cool "look"

do NOT get photographs done professionally before going to an agiency they tell you not to do that, they prefer just like polaroids or holiday snaps.

i'd test it out in chicago and i suppose if the agencies like you there they'll send you to new york.

oh yeah and go whenever, i dont think age is that important a guy at my last shoot was 13 so yeah go for it! :flower:

Yeah, pretty much if you have the look they want, they couldn't give a care about the age.

Alot of the models at shows are 14, 15, etc. Then there are guys who are 23-24, so its all in the look, and not the age.

I live near chicago and I wanna be a model too! But chicago sux cuz there is only Elite models and Ford models :( I wish IMG and DNA were here...

I don't think Elite does men's management anymore, they split into something called "Chosen Model Management".

That's ineteresting. I mean I just submitted my photos to DNA just yesterday. I haven't heard anything yet!?! I shouldn't have heard anything because it was Sunday! But regardless, does anyone know how long it take for an agency to respond if they are interested. I mean I am a little older..23 (I turned 23 like 1 month ago, but totally still look 19-20). What do you think?
