it probably depends on where you are...
here in sf, bloomingdale's and barneys probably have the best selection, as well as the marc by marc store...
our neiman's doesn't have alot of marc by marc bags...

I love, love the airliner jacquard print MBMJ bags! At first I wanted the clutch, but then I saw the actual bags with the detachable strap and I think that is more functional. Plus I saw the clutch on an actual model and that thing is MUCH bigger than I wanted for an everyday clutch.

^ i've been trying to hunt these down as well... i fell in love with them after seeing the runway pics and i haven't been able to find them! i saw the MARC logo one in Instyle magazine, and they said it would be available at Bloomingdales, but nothing's appeared on the site just yet. i really adore the ivory one. the closest i've found is the Owl Lady Bag, which has a somewhat similar shape, but a more old-fashioned feel IMO.

Hey guys. I always stalk these threads but I'm thinking seriously about buying my first MbMJ bag. I usually only spend $100-150 on a bag so it's a little splurgy and i need help choosing the right one. I only want to buy from piperlime.com b/c i have rewards points to use from my bananacard. What they have that I like is:

posh turnlock dot (also in yellow which I don't want)

totally turnlock terri

airline jacquard pilot

totally turnlock bowler

Also Dr Q groovee which I'm leaning away from since they only have cream and I already have a cream bag in the same size and Dr Q huge hillier hobo in midnight multi which I'm leaning away from due to possible trendiness.

I'm also wary of the airline jacquard since it isn't leather (though it's really cute!) and the bright green of the terri (the only color they carry). I'm afraid it will look old soon.

I want something that will be a classic, stylish, good quality bag that I won't be ashamed to carry in a year and that will hold me off until I can move up to something better in a few years. I don't mind it a little big since I often carry shoes, books, water bottle, etc in my purse. Leaning towards the bowler or the posh dot. Thanks in advance if you can help with suggestions.

I am going to New York on holidays in a few weeks and I want to buy a marc by marc bag while I'm there. Which would be the best stores for me to visit? Are there specific marc by marc stores or are some main line Marc Jacob stores better at stocking marc by marc than others?

pinksatin -- i like the last one the best, and the others less, for much the same reason that you cite. i actually have the totally turnlock, and i think it's a classic bag, but i have it in black not green.

Thanks quimby. I'm leaning towards the bowler too since it's the most classic look (and black) and big enough to be useful but not so much so it looks clumsy.


BTlover: I don't live in NY so I don't have inside scoop, but I know Sak's carries them. Probably Bloomingdale's and the other big dept. stores too. I think there's a men's MbMJ store on Bleecker St. nearby the regular MJ store but I don't know if there's women's.

pinksatin.. they have definitely butchered the bags from the Totally Turnlock line.. they dont look anything like the first few releases... Not too fond of the newer styling. I actually like the look of the jacquard pilot?

True... It is very cute. And different from any other bag I own in shape and appearance. And the cheapest of the ones I like. Has anyone had a fabric bag like this? Was it durable?

^ i haven't owned a fabric bag like this one, but i think that the structured shape of it and the darker color of the jacquard would make it seem to wear better.

i really wish they were making this bag in the bright blue 'foam' color! i think the small and somewhat conservative shape of this bag would look so cute in a bright color. so far i've seen it only in black and taupe leather, and the rust and blue jacquard prints.
