MARC by Marc Jacobs bags (November 2005 - November 2010)

Despite me always logging on and browsing, this is actually my second tFS post.
I posted this on the "Handbag suggestions" thread, but hopefully whoever reads this can give their opinions too

So I'm planning on getting a new designer handbag -- with the help of my parent's money of course, haha. So I was thinking a Marc by Marc Jacobs one since I love his style and its price point is reasonable. By reasonable, I mean that I feel bad milking my folks in funding my purchases and days out even though I work part-time at Abercrombie.

Anyway, so here are my options.

- a bigger Dr. Q. Groovee Satchel
Cream: http://www.barneys.com/b/browse/prod...egoryId=463563
Black: http://www.shopbop.com/groovee-tote-...all-shopbysize
Saddle: http://www.shopbop.com/groovee-tote-...all-shopbysize

- or a smaller Dr. Q. Groovee Convertible Clutch
Cream: http://www.shopbop.com/convertible-c...all-shopbysize
Black: http://www.shopbop.com/convertible-c...all-shopbysize

So your opinions as to which bag (and color) or any other suggestions as to a classic handbag I should buy are greatly appreciated!

While the clutch is much cheaper (and will be easier on yours and your parents' wallets), you have to step back and look at the usage of both bags. What will they be used for? Are you interested in using a bag for school? Just as an everyday bag? Can you take it from day to night (only the clutch can do this)? Can you tolerate heaviness?

If I were you, I'd get the Satchel in Saddle, but that's because I love the color and I'm a big bag freak. If you have more than enough big bags, get the clutch. If you don't have many bags at all, then get the satchel.

Color wise, white is best for spring but if you want to use all round colors, black or saddle are best. If your style is more classic based, then black. If you have more earth tones, then saddle. If you're more girly, then white (plus, there aren't many people wearing the white so you'll stand out more!).

Thanks for the response! I was leaning towards the satchel too, but I'm still conflicted in my color choices. I have one saddle-color vintage purse I love already and a tan Coach tote from my parents as my everyday bag. Hence me leaning towards black or cream moreso.
You've got me thinking about how the cream would stand out :D Since I started working at Abercrombie in `06, we're not allowed to wear black so I miss it too though! But because of no-black, my wardrobe is more neutral in color. So having said that, would cream still be as nice with a lot of white and neutral/earthy tones? or do you think black wouldn't match as much as the cream?

Ah, I see. With your wardrobe, I'd go towards the cream because the color will serve to enhance it.

I don't think the black will go with the earth/neutral tones, but then again, I also almost never wear those colors together.

sooooooooo...my bf bought me the dr. q groovee bag (for a VERY late xmas present) and and a tiffany's necklace for vday and sent it to me the week of vday (he lives in CA and i go to school in MD). well, it never got to me. soooooo pissed. he didnt get insurance or a tracking number on it since his mom sent it for him. :| sorry just had to rant.

^^ What a tragedy! I feel for you. Just knowing that bag is somewhere lost in the postal system and your bf paid for it. I'd be sad too. I've had a pkg lost in the mail before too of personal items but that would still make me sad. Maybe it will eventually show up?

^ i haven't owned a fabric bag like this one, but i think that the structured shape of it and the darker color of the jacquard would make it seem to wear better.

i really wish they were making this bag in the bright blue 'foam' color! i think the small and somewhat conservative shape of this bag would look so cute in a bright color. so far i've seen it only in black and taupe leather, and the rust and blue jacquard prints.

It does come in the bright blue "foam" color! I was just at the MBMJ store on Bleeker in NY on Thurs and they are carrying it. I have it in the blue jacquard and the associate commented that she liked it on me. The bag was much smaller than I thought but the clutch would have been waaay to big for me. I love it though.

I recently went to the MbMJ store in SF and found a bag I love, its the pilot messenger bag. They are giving it away on Teen Vogue website I think.. SO ADORABLE

Pilot Jaquard bag thats the one!!! thats the one I love. What color should I get the brown or the blue one? And for the girl who ordered it where did you order it from? and when you get it can you post pics I wanna see how it looks on someone else other than myself thanks

I ordered the blue pilot (not messenger) bag from piperlime.com. It didn't come yet though, sometime next week probably since I only ordered it Friday.

Which brick and mortar store has the best selection of MBMJ? I have Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor's. Thanks!

I was at Bloomingdales today and they had a wonderful wall of MbMJ, as well as Marc Jacobs. This adventure led to my parents saying I could get a Marc bag for my upcoming birthday. I am debating between the Dr. Q. Patchwork clutch (love at first sight, but a bit dressy for everyday) and the Turnlock Dylan (probably the most useful). Luckily, I've got some time before I have to decide if I want an everyday bag or a going out clutch. I feel like the clutch would be the most special, though, and something that will last a long time. :innocent:

Pics when u get it!!!

It came today. I really like it. It's a lot smaller than bags I normally carry so I had to put the purse contents on a major diet. I think it looks roomier in pics than what you can actually carry in it. Like a makeup bag or compact umbrella are out of the question if you also have a wallet and datebook in it. But I can make sacrifices. My parents were shocked to learn that I spent $200 on a purse ($298 but what they don't know can't hurt them:wink: ). And it really isn't much more than what I'd normally spend but I think they've been sheltered.

Anyway, pics but with links b/c I feel silly posting inline images of me holding a bag.:P

SOOOOOOOOO ADOARBLE@@@@@ Im getting that bag also I want the brown one looks very vintage! so cute though nice pics! I knew it was very tiny when I saw it at MBMJ 2 weeks ago

I also got the blue pilot bag today, it's really adorable!!!!:heart:
but I think the shoulder strap is a bit too short, I wish it would be longer so it can look more casual:P

The Blue bag as in the leather version of the Jacquard version?

I would love to see pics of both the leather and jacquard version. I'm still having a hard time deciding!

^ Coolywah, how much did you buy it for in Hong Kong? I'm going on vacation there soon (my first time!) and I want to see if it's cheaper to get it there. Also, where is the MbMJ boutiques (if there is one)? Thanks!

what is the price on the oversized clutch that MIA is wearing in the s/s ad?

i've only seen the full size purse version of this bag (with a shoulder strap), and i would LOVE it in yellow!

wow its gorgeous! I usually dislike monogrammes but this is just incredibly cute! i love the foldover flap effect, really urban cool! :-) Congrats on a wonderful purchase!! ^_^

Coolywah I know what you mean. It would also make it easier to get in and out of with out taking it off your shoulder.

telicious I think I've seen a pic of the leather on NAP.

coordelia, I normally stay away from monograms, logos, etc, but I did feel that this was more about a pattern and the name is more afterthought. And I do like the vintage airline seats look of it.:P
